Jake Aarts

so Sonsie in the sub vest, possibly getting no game time rather than playing a full game in the VFL?

in a few weeks when everyone has games under their belts kids can go sub (if they cant break their way into the 22) but these early few weeks Aarts is the perfect sub, where it doesnt matter if he only gets limited game time.
Might be Ross as sub this week, but I can see the argument to give Ross a full game in the 2s. Get him to gain confidence and intensity there.
Maybe we can get Mansell to sub?
He's had 2 vfl games so far

Interesting that he played both game’s albeit only a quarter in the seniors.
Wonder if that’s a first?

We are not winning another flag in the next few years. Aarts is a fringe AFL player and at 27yo, even if he is BOG in the VFL - he should stay there so we can give the next generation a crack, even if they are 10-20% below Aarts today. Stack, RCD, MRJ Sonsie all should get a go before Aarts comes back.

Of course we know Dimma will bring Aarts straight back in!

Highlights the level difference in AFL vs VFL that Jake is having an impact.
He'll be very useful at VFL level to help our kids develop but his time at the elite level is done.

And what’s more he should be pretty proud of having had an AFL career and played 40 odd games - and played well at times too.

But there’s no need to play him ahead of a number of others from now on.

He is first in line for the seniors after being BOG in the magoos. If the kids want a game in the seniors they need to earn it.

Nope the benefits of a kid getting exposure & learning now outweigh an older player who’s been ineffective in the snrs for a couple of seasons now.

He also plays flank positions on the ground that's perfect for developing youngsters in.
I like Jake. I love his story of perseverance but the time has come to move forward.

The kids need to come in under the tuition of Jack and Cotch and Grimes and Dion and Shane and Tom and Dustin, not when they are gone.

Moju and Jud even Sonz or Syd, however I still prefer Syd across half back.

If we go to the Aarts well again then we have our priorities all wrong.

Not yet, SA, IMO. Aarts gets over the miles and just outclassed a field of our young aspirants. We don't just feed Juddy and Banks to the wolves.

If there are hidings to be had Aarts gets them. Not Juddy or Banks. When we've got them ready we baptise them. Let Aarts bust his arse on the road.

FWIW I would play him anyway on his VFA game. He was awesome at the level. Bit of Lablett about him.

I hear you Jack but a rebuild on the run entails playing youth that have a future. Fast track them whilst the pensioners are still playing.

Aarts can fast track the youth in the VFL.
