Jack Riewoldt [Merged]

Jack had a tough outing last night, great that he kicked 2.2 from 5 kicks.

IMO he was significantly compromised with Lynch not being in the team which enabled the Lion's defence to readily double team him and he was starved of extra opportunities. His leadership attributes cannot be denied and he is vital to the team structure, but I feel he has certainly lost speed, generally and especially on the lead and even his ability to jump appears to be stymied. Maybe I am off the mark here, but Jack certainly has not been a force to be reckoned with in season 2020.

I think we can all see his powers waning yet he somehow managed to be sixth in the Coleman. With Lynch firing he still provides an effective foil.

Has kicked a goal in his last 15 matches; Gunston is next on 12, then Franklin 10 and Lynch 8. I think he can contribute for another year.

What worries me is that recently he's been throwing himself around like a young bloke and landing heavily. It's how he got injured last year.

Highlights list deficiencies. Lynch injured, CCJ suspended & Chol useless. Need another key forward & forward/ruck (especially with Soldo out for a year) as soon as possible. Jack gives a contest but Chol’s insipid effort made things far worse. I’d defy any forward to consistently find the ball when double & triple teamed.

Add to that haphazard delivery to the forward line and it is hard to see any forward having a night out.

This will sound naive. But we have not fixed our forward entries all year. Our I50 DEF has been poor almost every game this year.

During some of Damien's press conferences, he lamented the flooding (Sydney) or was frustrated by the flooding yet didnt refer to it in his presser (Collingwood, Freo).
Other times, in interviews with coaches, they kind of admit its b/c we are waiting for the good ball users (Edwards, Prestia) to return.

These are all true. But doesn't change the fact that last kick I50 all year has been wasted all year. The GWS game is one that sticks out too.
And once in the I50, the game plan with 3 smalls that has served us well these last 3 years seems to have lost its potency with shorter quarters?

There’s a view that we should kick grubbers into the forward 50 when the opposition flood back. I’m not in favour of that as it’s too unpredictable for the forwards too. However what is our current first option (or so it seems) which is the bomb to the top of the square should be the last option. Firstly the two key talls have to separate and present different options. Kick to lead or kick to advantage side of forward should be first option. Plus as much as possible run the ball inside 50 & take shots at goal is another option. Against Brisbane (especially in that second quarter) we just kept kicking it on top of Jack’s head when he was double & triple teamed. Similar to other losses we had during the year such as the GWS game. Like many, I’m disappointed with the last ball movement inside 50 - has to be addressed.

While he kicked a couple, he also had an 'almost' game. Was in the right spot in a few packs and also on a lead to take a contested mark but double grabbed and dropped them. Very frustrating but hopefully a one off.

Only 4 touches but the difference between Jack & Chol is marked.
Played his role & was a viable threat.
He may be in decline Jack but he still keeps oppo defenders very honest & that allowed Lynch to flourish tonoight.

Spot on.
Jack is smart. He cleared the forward line for lynch.
Pity castagna and Rioli didn't crumb one goal from the 56 that hit the ground.

Jacks timing was out and he was very quiet.

Port should be very worried.

watching the replay, paved the way for a few goals by crashing packs. Team game. (I already thought that before watching the reply though :)

Even on a quiet night the opposition know that if they leave him alone for a second he will cause damage. More than a decoy though. Slower and doesn't jump as well with age but remains a threat, not just to grab one and kick a goal, but to set up goals for others.

I heard the commentators say he was on somewhere over 280 games, if he goes for another year he should get to 300.

Played his role well. Got lynch isolated one on one many times.

thats the thing with jack.

a couple of times he was 4 deep and way out of position, but he still launched, squashed blokes and brought it to ground.

he could not touch the ball and deserve a Norm Smith

maybe him, Marlion, George and Kmac could share it in a 4 way tie with 10 possessions collectively?
