The answer to the question you seek was there all along Captain.

"Strange post as I clearly said CJ was more of a forward than a ruck"
I didn't mention your post, AngryAnt. Why did you suggest that my post was "strange"?

the tunnel vision with which some view the decisions our club makes never ceases to amaze.

we have selected Chol over CCJ several times over the past two years.

Chol.

we rate CCJ as a forward prospect and relief ruck but not enough to keep him from fatter contracts elsewhere. to argue otherwise is foolish and pointless.

You replied to my post in a way that I found bore little relationship to what I posted, hence "strange". Generally when you quote a post it's assumed you are responding to it. That's the way I look at it anyway.

Anything else?

I'm just posting about Balme's comment, Angers. About Soldo. I've listened closely. At no stage did Balme say or hint that Coleman Jones is in the mix for Richmond's #1 ruck berth. El regardless of contract status.
I'm not sure he's ever been talked about that way. IIRC Chol was preferred as first ruck for the VFL games that got played and CCJ started forward. And CCJ didn't show a lot when he did get the opportunity to ruck at AFL level. In reality he was probably 4th in line until Chol departed. And he might have found himself behind Sampson as a ruck also.

Are Norf recruiting him as a future first ruck or relief ruck/key forward?

Relief ruck / key forward no doubt

On Chol, I think we much preferred CJ to Chol, MD. I've seen evidence for at least a year. The roles we gave the rookies at VFL level were about stretching them IMO.

As a forward/ruck in 2021 Norf had Xerri, who failed at senior level. So much so that they played Tom Campbell as forward/ruck. As FORWARD/ruck. Cripes, that is a Xerri damnation. Oh, and now Xerri is on the table. (Norfs hate Xerri. Good judges IMO.)

No worries Jack. In interests of decorum I will happily withdraw the "strange" comment and put it down to a misunderstanding on my part. Peace brother.

A misunderstanding must be shared, Angers. Bien sur. But all is clear now.

Sounds like they promised a ruck role, but . . . we'll see what they actually do once he is there and on the payroll. I never thought of him as anything but a forward and relief ruck at best. As a forward I reckon he has potential, not superstar level, but a solid tall forward who will kick goals and tie up a couple of defenders. That's why I am sorry to see him go. But his aspiration to be a first ruck, can't see it myself.

We really missed Soldo this year.
Very unrated.
I will never forget how Hawkins pushed him into the contest for the umpire 10metres away to call play on.
It still burns me today.
Healy might be a Slapper but he is 100% right when it comes to players being pushed in the back

Are you referring to the incident which caused his injury? If so it was Balta who Hawkins blatantly pushed into Soldo.

Balmey said that Soldo was looking very good at the end of the season. With scrimmages and a pre-season game he should be good for round one.

Yeah was pretty surprised when Balme said that. Said he could have played in the finals if we'd made it. Hopefully that means he'll get a full preseason & be RTG.

I saw him at chaddie around April May and he said he had a set back but it wasnt a huge issue.
I asked him if he would play this year and he was clear it was very low chance.
If he was running im September and hits preseason ready to go.
We are singing next year

All sorts of things happen on a footy field, but this one I still can't deal with either.

I particularly enjoyed someone referring the Hawkins push as him protecting space.

My understanding is that Ivan’s knee is A1 at the moment and he will be doing a full pre-season. Last years setback was very minor but club decided to get it cleaned up rather than risk playing him.
Fingers crossed he goes well this preseason, we miss him big time.
