Hurricane Sandy

As someone who loves New York, it's been hard to watch. I can't imagine how the water would reach the Stock exchange as it is halfway up a fairly steep hill. Bit like The slope of Collins Street. NY is the best city in the world, its something that must be experienced.

Phantom, what are you teaching?

Generalist Primary, with an accent on Science, Geography & History, as well as usual Literacy & Maths.

My wife just arrived back from NY yesterday, although she was in Texas during the storm.
She certainly has some interesting tales to tell about NY.

Manhatten, as always, is magnificent.
However there are some real 3rd world problems in other suburbs that American society repeatedly turns its back on.
And, I'm not talking about those areas that we'd expect to see problems.

American society absolutely fails its citizens in providing some of the essential services that we take for granted here in Australia.

Personally, I've seen much better infrastructure and services in Russia, and many other countries.

America is a second world country, with areas of the 3rd world in some of its major cities. Guess it's always been like that.

About 60 people died in Haiti from this storm as well. The are " only " Haitians I guess so they don't really count with the media reporting.
Such is the nature of the reporting on this disaster. The human cost was not just on the east coast of USA

Media report to their consumer audience.

Many reading the reports of the 10th anniversary of the Bali Bombings might conclude that it was an Australian disaster.

There certainly were many Australians involved, however the incident was an Balinese/Indonesian disaster with many foreigners involved.

I know they do but it just frustrates me and I need to have a rant about it every now and then.
