Hardwick & Gale - Effect on 2010 membership numbers?

Once again Rd 1 against the Blues could mean the difference in a few thousands members signing up.

With such a big increase and a fizzer of a season being dished up, I would expect a reduction. Early wins are a must to offset this

Once we start playing the way Dimma wants us too, hard and uncompromising, the followers will follow and sign up.

Can't wait for the day for this to happen, I may need to put the viagra away because the emergence of the tigers will simply give me a hard-on.

Certainly a decrease on this year's membership statistics, given all the bandwagoners that jumper on board with the Cousins hype and finals expectations. I'd be anticipating anything in the vicinity of the low 30s, probably about 32,000. Keeping in mind that over the past 12 months our membership sky rocketed by about 7,000.

Are we playing them round 1 every year from now on?

I believe that's a request both clubs have put forward to the AFL. It was the first match of the season but next year it's relegated to the first match of the season played in Melbourne.

I wounder what's stopping the clubs from arranging a gate sharing agreement.

Membership will depend on what happens between now and May next year.

If we win the preseason comp and a few out of the first 6 next year then numbers will increase. If we bomb out and the team looks and plays with the same lack of passion look at a 20% decrease around 31000.

If DH just gets them to start to play with a bit of intensity and we are competitive look for about 33000.

Who we delist, draft and trade will sway these figures also.

Either way we should at least have as many as 2008 with the AFL membership trending up across the board.

Membership will be quite healthy next year. It might not have been after this year, but I think the appointment of Gale and now Hardwick will restore the optimism of many punters who will want to get on for the ride.

I don't think anyone who is a realist expects a smooth ride, but at least I think there is now reason for genuine optimism amongst the supporter.

I think we can expect that the word of Damien Hardwick will ring long a true for a few of our players in years to come.

Some will find out a little earlier than others just how much weight those word will carry.

Me too. Ths Cousins effect will wear off, and despite some impressive off-field appointments, I can't see that lifting us much higher than where we are.

What we clearly have though, is a great foundation for building our membership off if/when we start seeing some real onfield success.

Would be stoked if we broke even.

We don't have a Cousins coming to the club this year, and we are going to come 14-15th ....

People will fall off, not saying I am but people will.

I think the membership will increase if the fans can see a new professional team really like what March has been doing of late with Gale as CEO Cameron as Football Manager & now Hardwick as coach the set up is so much better & more accountable with Free on the board as the footy man.

i think we will have those who wait till round 3 or 4 to see how we are travelling and then sign up and expect around the same.
Then we also have Marketing and membership departments who have their targets and these targets will increase year on year. It would be a failure for membershpi dept to go backwards and jobs would be on the line.

Dont forget that marketing and membership teams will also sell bulk memebrship packs to sponsors instead of purchasing a typical sponsorhip pack, so memberships at all clubs are always inflated. It only takes a Crazy John type of company to come along and say they will sponsor the club, purchase 10K of memberships and get some benefits above normal members thrown in for corporate catering reasons.

I predict a mild increase of about 1-3%. Targets are probably somewhere in the vicinity of 5-7% before commissions and bonuses are paid to staff i would imagine.

I think MBF did a bit of that with the Lions up here

Should pick up quite a few Magpie supporters after they get flogged in the finals. Get with the strength in 2010 Maggies!!
