Grand Final 2020 Thread Richmond Vs Geelong / Game Day Thread

Agree, but my word, I have to make spcial mention AGAIN of one of our unsung hero's in Finals especially ..................BIG NANK !

Another great great game big Fella, I love the way you go about it and are willing to take on the huge task of Rucking for 99% of the game.

Fantastic Finals player and that wont be forgotten anytime soon ........
Ruckmen become three times as important at the business end of a year. Nank has delivered solo twice and "Soldo" once.

Well that was quite a game, certainly a Grand Final for the ages. Truly a great game.

Where do you start?

You start with the first half. Geelong were bloody good. There were good reasons why we couldn't get our game going, Geelong's set up and, even more, their pressure, was elite. They were killing us for good reason, they were playing so well. But one of the signs of a truly great team is the ability to tough it out when the opposition are winning and limit the damage, we did that. A lot of the kicks into our forward 50 went straight to the opposition, but, while frustrating, it was at least in part a result of Geelong pressure. The way to beat Richmond is to stop us playing our own game, but geez is it ever hard to pull that off, even more so for 4 quarters.

Dusty's goal at the end of the second was crucial, just brought the margin back to something more manageable.

At the start of the 3rd you could see our pressure and intensity had lifted. It certainly gave me hope that we could cut back that deficit. Still worried with Vlastuin missing but we were pegging it back. One we got our noses in front and smelt the kill we became unstoppable. That big goal from Menengola in the last was magnificent, big kick from a long way out under a lot of pressure. But we kept kicking more until the result was sealed. I had my daughter on zoom and commented that I preferred 3/4 time last year to this year as we just had our noses in front and it was very much still up for grabs.

Great game, win for the ages.

So many contributors. Thought Houli was quiet then I read here that he did his calf in the first quarter. What a guy, you are a hero Bachar.

Now, a few things about the game.

The incident where Dangerfield knocked out Vlastuin was a dog act pure and simple. Momentum, unavoidable, just one of those things? I call bulls***. He ran into the pack with his elbow cocked and ready to hit. Was he spoiling the ball? I haven't seen a replay but did it not come off his forearm, is that how you spoil a ball? I don't think so. He was leading with his elbow and that was as deliberate as you will see these days. Should be rubbed out but won't even get cited.

Umpiring was a mess. Dangerfield got a free for in the back in the first quarter as he was tackled, I saw at least half a dozen similar incidents in the game where the adjudication was different - inconsistent. Deliberate out of bounds was unrecognisable from the way it was adjudicated 8 days ago. Holding the ball: grossly inconsistent. I know Ablett has been a great player, but that doesn't give his whole team the right to hold on to the ball for ages and not get pinged. Passing the ball to a team mate has been illegal disposal forever. Absolute joke as per usual.

What an era we are building. I really couldn't care less whether the media call this a dynasty, we know the truth, the supporters of all the other clubs know the truth. This is a truly great football team and now let's make sure this is a truly great football club through thick and thin and for decades to come.

Thanks to Benny, Peggy, Dimma, the players, the whole club. We are back, we are the biggest damned AFL club ever, and when Richmond are back we nail multiple flags.

Go Tiges.

DS
Well written DS.
Agree with all of it.
Dangerfield did hit the ball away ( arm was straight ) then as Nick is in contest for a spoil , Dangerfield braces ( with a bent elbow ) and strikes Nick.
Report- Nothing
Free kick- Nothing

Then Ablett gets tackled by the skipper , falls, disposes the ball incorrectly.
Free kick -No

The Cats in tackles throw the ball to team mates ( rugby style ) and not once penalised.

DOB-that wasn’t a free.

Dangerfield vs Cotch contest in the forward pocket. That wasn’t a free. That was a fair contest.
Play on- No. Free kick to Dangerfield who kicks his only goal and contribution.

I was on the verge of ‘losing my marbles’ with the way we were playing but that goal from Dusty before HT, nearly gets another but miss kicks it’s, and it’s a 15 point margin.
HT we regrouped , made some positional /structure changes and that second half was full of 22 committed players. They all lifted in the second half and they all contributed to our B2B success.
Houli thank you. If he doesn’t dig in ( faith ) we may not win this.

Here are some pics & stuff

Spot on. All away games, beating Port in SA in their home final. All that stigma goes. My mate a Crows supporter was always bitter of '17, best team, MCG, blah , blah, blah. he got a text from me today (in good fun). Winners are grinenrs & he acknowledged how good we are. LOL
off to buy the paper now
"Only beaten interstate teams" goes out the window as well. Unlike Hawthorn's threepeat.

Morning all, what a NIGHT! I still can't believe what I witnessed. They had us in defence disarray early but we settled and never let them capitalise. Watching live, I thought Shedda, Prestia and the Captain were outstanding in the engine room. Nank was a competitive beast but probably not as dominant with the taps to advantage, thus making the engine room work critical.

Dimma changed things around in the third. We of course raised the fight but we also became less predictable forward as Lynch spent some minutes off the ground and we went smaller. Bolton really lifted and guys like George and Rioli while not prominent on the stats sheet were working their asses off. Jack presented continually which was critical and when lynch returned this seemed to disorganise geelong and we were suddenly threatening every time we went forward.

Three quarter time huddle, Dimma giving the final rev up... I saw Jack Reiwoldt leaves the group and go to Vlastuin who was standing with the trainers and pulls him into the huddle with the boys. Just a small gesture that speaks volumes about our team.

Dustin's brilliant game was a privilege to witness. He truly has a beast mode and it is clear that no defence can hold him once he winds up. I've seen a lot of great players following football for 50 years but he has to be at the top of the pantheon players. 3 norms = statue time. Few boos from geelong fans but they reserved more for Lynch. Thanks media for the complete hatchet job on this bloke this season. Yes Lynch didn't help himself with tiny silly incidents but the BS around all that was written or said about him as a player amounts to a howling bloodthirsty pack demanding crucifixion. Slanderous.

And just finally, before I go looking for breakfast on this beautiful brisbane morning... The debate will be around us and if we compare with dynasty brisbane and hawthorn sides but it's undeniable...
YOU CANNOT FLUKE 3 FLAGS!

We got a gear that when we go up teams cannot keep up.I was saying to a relative if we bring the heat on to cats pressure and tackling intensity and tidy up our game watch them go in there shell and crumble and they did.

yes - even the salty one said as much - and every one in our team knows how to press the accelerator once Dusty changes gears

- it pure class, a symphony in motion (sorry for the metaphor)

I am about to sit down for my third viewing - can’t wait

Don't think the double points applies any more. But if enough points for two weeks, gets sent to Tribunal.

I think he's guilty as hell but IMO he has to be found 100% guilty or not guilty. Tribunal or nothing.
When Lynch ( Lions ) went ‘nuts’ in a GF I’m sure the AFL didn’t like the look and mentioned that in GF the penalty would double LTRTR, but I stand to be corrected if wrong.

Just going on something I read last night. Could be wrong.

There used to be a life ban for 16 games' total suspension, but the AFL quietly backed it out last year. Maybe this is similar.

The life ban only applies at levels below the AFL.
Wiki says "Any player who accumulates a total of 16 weeks or more of suspensions over the course of his career will be automatically deregistered from the AFL... Deregistration is only practiced in country and suburban football competitions; it is not practiced by the AFL as of 2019". Maybe I've misinterpreted it.
