could the bit about on;y having 1 leg - stop him from taking this - a few times he was in real pain out there.

Was definetly in some Major Pain and I think it actually could play a part tomorrow.

Cruel if it happens, but that's Sport. Especially if Og's or Allenby can take advantage of it................I wouldn't be to concerned if that was the case.

i found out this morning that appleby actually had the same operation on his knee that Tiger had three days before tiger.

Woods: put on earth to be a legend.

Off to a bad start this morning though. Double bogey on the first. (Probably only win by 4 or 5 now......heh heh...)

If Ogilvy cant win it, would like to see Wedgewood party pies win it.

US Open has the playoff
Used to be 36 holes.

most other events have sudden death

Events in general yes (eg. regular Tour events), but where the 4 majors are concerned, The Open has a 4 hole playoff and the US PGA Champiosnhip has a 3 hole playoff. Only the US Masters operates via sudden death.

Bring back the match play

Well, the US PGA used to operate on the basis of 2 rounds of strokeplay, followed by matchplay the next two days.

Personally, reckon the 4 or 3 hole playoff is the most rational format, the sudden death the most dramatic (but least fairest) and the 18 hole playoff the next day the least rational (some may say even boring or deflating) but the most fairest perhaps.

When The Open was match play.
There was some story floating around that a competitor had instructed his driver to collect him by the 10th green

The greatest golfer ever wins again. Its almost getting surreal.

Listening to Mediate talk straight after he lost, it sounded like he never really expected to win. He seemed happy just to be there competing with Tiger.

That's the disappointing part - the other players are beaten before they start. Until someone with some balls stands up to Tiger, the Majors will only go one way; and that's pretty boring.

That's one way of looking at it. The other way is to speculate that you're witnessing one of the finest sportsmen of all time who is good enough to intimidate any opposition and seeing him win all these majors is anything but boring.

He's definitely one of the greatest but he hadn't walked 18 holes for 3 weeks before Torrey Pines and was playing at about 70% capacity. If anyone was going to beat him, this was their chance.

Unfortunately these days the Majors are over before they start.

For one, that's simply not true. Secondly, even if it were, I wouldn't see it as unfortunate. I'd rather see one person of once in a generation talent fulfilling it and dominating these events than ten, fifty, a hundred or whatever guys of lesser ability fighting it out for each event.

That's fair enough - it's just a point we differ on.
