I hate true parkland courses like you get a lot of in England. Bland, sparse tree lines, sterile. Usually soaking wet under foot all the time too. The Belfry comes to mind. Wentworth…meh.

Disgraceful decision by the R&A to not include Norman in the 150th anniversary celebrations. Two time open winner who showed nothing but respect for the game every time he teed it up. It’s a joke really. Pathetic.
Why does the R&A care about LIV anyway? They - and their tournaments including the BO - have nothing to do with the PGA Tour or DP Tour and their rivalry with LIV. A rivalry which is just typical market competition like in any other industry on the planet anyway.

Yeh it reeks. Absolutely disrespectful to the game. Norman has held that tournament in the highest regard. A great champion played the best golf of his lifetime there.
It’s put a stain on the tournament for me.
Am hoping for a LIV winner now. Will they withhold the trophy?

I don’t necessarily support what Norman has done but he loved the game, he respected the game, he played it in the right spirit. He adored the BO. He loved the crowds. His game was best suited to BO golf. His driving, wind play and imagination.

small world it is , joined David Wren for the last few holes at Royal Birkdale today, absolute ripper track, that’s what I call a real links style course , imho it’s as much underrated as Carnoustie is overatted.

Lytham is pretty good. Not a "heavy" links course with big towering dunes like Royal St Georges and Birkdale in spots, but pretty good. If you cant make the two par 5's in two (the 6th and 7th), you are soooooft.
Go to nearby Blackpool. It will suit you. Straight out of the 1970's with rickety old amusement park entertainment, bogan pubs, fast food outlets every 10m etc. Awesome.
