Your last sentence says it all. Maybe one of the most fascinating aspects of the whole Covid virus disaster, especially in retrospect which will produce a vast range of scientific, political and social analysis along with fiction and further opinionated commentary, is how it has defined the dividing lines in our whole country/states/local communities and group connections. Dividing lines based on a wide range of factors: political persuasion, education, age and generation, acceptance of science, social class and possibly race/ethnicity.
I can really imagine exactly the type of people you see in comfortable, middle-class golf clubs. Very entitled, privileged types often, highly conservative with entrenched old-world values many of them.
A pandemic is a bit like water: it creates its own levels in the world. And many who refuse to face realities, may cost themselves their own life/damaged health or ones close to them that they are so blase about putting at risk. Getting vaxed is now quite straightforward for almost all.
I think governments will take it out of their hands requiring either a vaccine passport or current negative rapid test (or both). No-one has the 'right' to place others in danger through their ignorance or arrogance. Otherwise, more people ill or dead, virus keeps transmitting including getting access to those still vulnerable, plus increasing chance of even more harmful variants from mutating. They have no right to ignore science or the law.
They can just confine themselves to homes even much longer or cop the penalties. Their choice.
