Glenn Bartlett, Gary Pert and Simon Goodwin

That did he say?
It wouldn't have helped the day he told me to Foff, when i sat next to the coaches box and spent the entire afternoon, calling out 'Stack the backline line Rossy".
He destroyed the game in the mid 2000's. Demitirou was right
Zips, did you ever think maybe he told you to Foff because you thought he was Ross Lyon? :D

On paper an on ball squad of Gawn, Petracca, Oliver, Brayshaw and Viney reads well.

But just so much mediocrity like the McDonalds, Fritsch, Hunt, Langdon, Weidemann, Pruess, Vandenburg, Hibberd, Neal-Bullen, the Wagners, Bennell, Tomlinson, Hannan, Baker, Hore, Brown.

And everyone is going on about our culture. ... chickens have come home to Roos.t for the dees and the AFL

Melbum supporters laughed at us when Jordy McMahon kicked that goal.
We picked up Dusty & they picked the lesser Grimes

Roos is often hailed as the messiah by his media mates but honestly he has had some very cushy jobs.

Bankrolled by COLA during his time up in Sydney.

Bankrolled by the AFL with a predetermined exit date at Melbourne, meaning he had very little pressure to deal with regarding his coaching position.

Classic spin doctor that the media lap up as though he is an AFL genius. He isnt fit to tie Dimma's shoelaces.

No-one here has yet mentioned the factor with greatest influence inhibiting Melbourne. Failure to address The Norm Smith Curse.

Yep its beeen nothing but sand pounding for the Deees ever since they gave the great Norm Smith the arse..

How would Roos be feeling? Went in there as a basket case, turned it around, left it to Goodwin on an uphill trend, playing finals, then the arse falls out again and its back where it started

I think if Roos ever felt down he would simply have another look at his bank balance.

You got to admire Roos I reckon.

It took our whole club to destroy the Crows in 2017.

Roos destroyed Melbourne all by himself.

Dunno Tim, I reckon I'd have Fritsch and especially Hibberd in front of blokes like Viney and Oliver, they are such massively over rated one trick ponies

Yeah, I liked Fritsch early but he just hasn’t come on. Looks so cool and classy but it’s deceiving. Hibberd was good but has been on a downward spiral for a few seasons now. Average.

Melbourne do to players what we used to do, turn great prospects into sh!t

Will be interesting to see what happens next year with Darren Burgess having had the full year running the program. I'd be waiting for that to see where they are at.

How long was he at Port for.
I really only remember their run to the Prelim and Burgess was hot property.
They never hit the heights again.
Granted he did go O/S for English soccer team.

Some good points being made here, that I think are accurate.

Pert is a horrible leader of people, went in as a captains call and put people offside immediately. It was VERY surprising to the staff at Collingwood that the Dees just went out and brought him in.

Bartlett is also hugely divisive, and in my opinion should cop a lot of the blame for orchestrating such a terrible culture.

I think Roos is HUGELY overrated for a lot of the reasons mentioned, but one thing I will say is that his last year/Goodwin's first year the culture there was really strong. But that's a lot to do with Jim Plunkett more than Roos. Bartlett and Pert have been great at undermining that.

Goodwin isn't actually a bad coach, but I think similar to Dimma a few years, needs better people around him.

Think they have the bones of a decent list, but lots of average drafting and recruiting in recent times. There is no way known that Weid was worthy of such a high pick as example, and thats forced a player like Tom McDonald to be a main focal point when he is better suited as a 2nd or 3rd option. Totally thrown their balance out of whack.

Getting rid of Misson and bringing in Burgess is a big move. Needs at least 1 full season to see that impact though, as the changes from a total change in performance direction wont happen in one season.
