Couldn't find a general trade thread. Suns offering pick 7 for someone to take Jack Bowes. Holy crap, is this true? What an indightment on their recruiting and list management to have dug themselves a hole this deep. Must be on a big long contract, 2 years to go! He's a bum. And Atkins. If you trawl back through the PRE archives you'll find my disbelief that they were poaching him at the time, and I'm just an armchair expert. Paying 2 players who were never much good $6 or 700K pa, maybe more, to be good ordinary VFL players. Truly amazing. If they haven't already sacked their recruiters and list managers, do it pronto.

Atkins was atrocious recruiting. I don't think he's on 600, more like 450, but still. Why?

Average with a capital A. 5 senior games this year, I've watched a few suns VFL games this year and I'm surprised he got that many. Solid at VFL level, thats it. I guess a club might be willing to pay him as a VFL player to get pick 7.

Jesus. Well I suppose they poached Atkins, $350-400? and this 7 to take Bowes deal means he is grossly overpaid, anything more than $150K is overpaid for him, but say $300-400?.

so yes, $650-$800 for a pair of bums. astoundingly bad.

edit, thinking about it, if they offering pick 7 to take him, they really want him gone, must be on stupid money. %5 0r 600K maybe? His manager must be an absolute gun, and the suns list manager an absolute rube. A perfect storm.

Ridiculous clubs can trade players with big contacts to get them off the books.
Bowes is on 550-600k 2 yrs.
You better hope pick 7 isn't a dud..because that a huge bill your paying off for another club for a reserves player.
Bowes would only get games in a bottom 6 team

Dunno. To contract Bowes for a big long contract in the first place was ridiculous, incompetent. But the package with 7 to take him away much less ridiculous. Its funny, we will give you pick 7 if you take this lead out of our saddlebags and put it into your saddlebags.

So let me get this right. If a club is willing to take Bowes then the Suns will hand over pick 7? Where do we sign?

apparently that is it. And you have to pay his contract of course, which must be big. I wouldn't be rushing to do it myself. Seen a lot of him this season.

Bowes has played some ok footy but to get Pick 7, I'd do it if we had space. North are crazy not to do it.

Yeah I can see the logic. But is pick 7 enough to take on a player with an extremely inflated opinion of himself (just my impression, but backed by this trade move), on similar money to say Daniel Rioli to play VFL? Its not us.

For North, what price to have another list clogger, highly paid, foisted on you? Do they really want to make change?

Its interesting. As you can tell I've got a strong view on Bowes, which I had before this pick 7 to take him thing emerged.

You wouldn't be paying the money for Bowes. You are paying the money for pick 7 in the draft.

Maybe the Tigers should throw their hat in the ring for the Bowes deal just so Duddoro and Essendon go and launch a panicked jump at it.

That's the catch.
I'm surprised 4 clubs are willing to do it.
I bet Geelong, Sydney, Melbourne, us or Brisbane will be interested.
Its an offer a club like North might take.
Pay a dud 600k for 2 yrs and pray to God pick 7 is a McNaughton or Zac Bailey other wise you will have 2 duds getting paid over 600k playing in your 2's. Bowes & Polec.
