Gameday - Tigers V Bombers

Don't get angry kids
Our champs are rooted.
Nakas isn't a 2023 ruckman plain and simple. You need to be mobile and you need presence, he has neither..
Could Grimes be any worse?
Cotchin can't run, 5 steps and its curtains.
The kick off the ground by Jack was 2017-2018 Richmond when Castagna Rioli & Bulter wouldve pounced on it.
Mansell and Pickett are tooo slow either as a small foward or a pressure foward.
Castagna gave us both could take a mark and he chased like a hungry dog.
Without Lambert & Edwards we don't have that clean class running up and down the ground. Tarranto is a shocking kick and a panic merchant. He is starting to *smile* me off because at GWS he was cleaner and more confident on the ball, duds don't win B&Fs in GF seasons.
Unlucky with Hopper can't get a clean run, has too many leg issues maybe over the summer he starts to trim down a bit and improve his spread and speed.
Jack unbelievable footballer but again it's not 2012 Jack. He can't jump and he can't run. Not sure Hardwick is proving anything sticking at full foward with 6 defenders on him.
It's coming up to our 10 yr anniversary of our last regular 1st rounder Rioli.
Its scary to think 7 1st rounders have been pissed down the drain.
And don't include Ellis either if we wanted him we wouldve kept him dim a dozen footballer . Now comes the challenge of rebuilding while another *smile* 5000k supporter base football club joins the competition.
We need to try to be smarter search the VFL for those kids that missed out at 18 but they are flourishing at 22 or even 25. Rather get 5 good yrs out of a 24 yr old then waste 6 yrs on a kid that shows nothing. Eg Collier Dawkins Ellis Dow

I agree with what David King said this morning. We left the last 30 seconds to the kids (Mansell & Hugo) with no experienced/leaders doing anything. Culture at this club has definitely dropped and needs to be revived again by getting rid of some oldies.

Yeah we love Kingy.
Pity Grimes had a shocker

Let's not get carried away we played like a bottom 4 Side and lost in the exact same way we lost to Collingwood in round 2 2016. We haven't learnt shiit

I feel like , and its just a gut feel , not based on anything else , and its probably a common theory ,

We have a lot of players who deep down are already very satisfied with their footy achievements ,

And with that there is a collective lack of hunger to put in all the effort required to climb mt everest again ,

whether they are good enough is another question altogether , but if thats also a negative combined with the other , we might be cooked .

We clearly played our Grand Final against the Cats the week before. We were as flat as a *smile*-carters hat. Just did not fire a shot.
The only redeeming thing for next week is that Port played their Grand Final on Friday night against Melbourne. They will be flat this coming week. Let's see who is the flatest.

Was infuriating that we had NO leadership in that last 30 seconds..we had two players in the goal square and no one blocking space between stringer and the goalsquare...
A bunch of mids and fowards stationary up the ground ...where was our captains leadership in this ....? Our usual plod brigade still upfeild ...bloody mindless or is it just so sense of desperation ????
That essendon foward line should of been congested

This.

But the biggest question I still have, is how a team which has pretty much lost EVERY close game in the last 2 years, not have a game plan in the dying 5 minutes of a game?

Forget about all the talk in this thread about who played badly or why we shouldn't have been in that situation in the first place. These situations are always going to come about. In fact, 12 of them to be exact since the start of 2022. That's almost half of our games. There is NO team which should lose in that position ever. 18 points up with only minutes to go and we couldn't get it done.

1) Why didn't we try at every opportunity to try and ice the clock with minutes to go and 3 goals up?
2) Why weren't we flooding their inside 50 in the last Essendon forward entry, when everyone knew it was their last roll of the dice? Where were the leaders shouting instructions to do so? This is where having 2 captains should be an advantedge, instead we have 2 C's and zero leaders.
3) How is it possible there could be so much space in their inside 50 on that last play, and no one within 15 minutes of their most dangerous player?
4) Haven't we practised for this exact situation? Knowing that we continue to shoot ourselves in the foot week after week, we just never learn.
Exactly..unforgivable leadership...that essendon foward line was wide open ..surely someone should of instructed players to get back ??
But we have no real vocal captains

Not sure if someone's already posted it but Redman said they had planned for close games. Looks like Pepper Scott copied Scumwood. We should've done the same, but we're too self-centred on this chaos game. The franticness of it is what's killing us now in close games.

Watching that last quarter again shows we just holiday at training. Do we practice positioning????

Even here, Rioli kicking in, why can't one player start running off to the left with a run and gun down the corridor instead
of kicking to where all Bummers are flooding?

That gets me too. Why is it so rare for a bloke to lead out of all that congestion into the centre square?

Because it's high risk.. turn it over there and it's oppo goal time.
Yes unless you have an elite kicker bringing it out. The Skunks have several including a 20 year old kid who can do it continually; hits targets all game and seldom turns it over. Merret rarely fails to find and hit a target with a variety of kicks. He killed us at Dreamtime.
We have won 3 flags but cannot stop kicking to our opponents and have very few marking players too.
Drafting has been dreadful. So bad we have given up and try to rely mostly on FAs.
