Game plan 2.0?

Last week and today - we're attacking from D50 a lot more than we have in the last few years.

It's about forcing teams wide and absorbing their shallow inside 50 entries, then finding ways to counter.

We either went to the wings to create a stoppage (which worked tonight) or we attacked the corridor, especially in the second half.

I'm a big believer that you gotta trust your back six.

It's no wonder that Batch and Vlastuin are playing wonderful footy at the moment. They are being asked to intercept mark in D50. MUCH easier to do this from D50 than from the press across the half forward line.

Take the heat Tigers, then use your good footskills.

If this is the new Hardwick game plan I might just buy a ticket for the finals train.

Re: Hardwick game plan 2.0?

I don't have the stats but I'd love to see time spent in respective forward 50s tonight.

We kept ours clear and functional.

TOTAL reverse of what we like to do.

Dimma could be pulling an ace from his sleeve at just the right time. Who'd have thunk it?

Re: Hardwick game plan 2.0?

Wondering if today it was more about beating Port than playing our way. Brisbane did the same thing and got the same result.

Hinkley's turn to come back with something different I think. Port have become a touch predictable.

Might be worth trying again for Essendon.

They like to control the pill.

Why not let them have it then counter like we did tonight?

called good coaching - and having the team good enough to do it - well done hardwick

Perhaps when he said after the Pies win last week that that wasn't the way we like to play, he was telling porkies? Perhaps it has been a deliberate change of plan all along.

Let's give Dimma the benefit of the doubt ;D

Certainly helps when the players dont butcher the ball as much, both in general play and in front of goal.

Rather than Dimma having gone 360 on his gameplan, perhaps the players are finally executing what he has wanted all along???

It was definitely well executed.

But what about time spent in the forward line? It was vastly different to what we like to do.

Good point General. Dimma had the luxury of viewing the tape (Lions V Port), and planned very well. Credit to Leppa however credit to Dimma and the entire team to pull it off.

I'm waiting to see a unique game plan that is purely developed by Dimma - the Richmond Way!

I think teams have worked out that to beat Port you need to sag back a little.

Port is very good and breaking the press so teams are now preferring to say "come at us".

A very, very deep hole for Hinkley to climb out of.

But hey, if it works so well, is Dimma flexible enough to try it more often?

Wouldn't that be going 360 on his game plan? ;D

No, just you wanting to start another thread. Pretty easy to see through. Why couldn't you incorporate this into the coach thread? You would of been a hit in that Kath and Kim program. "Look at me, look at me".

I think that teams have realised their kicking skills aren't of the level of the Hawks, and they can be prone to errors. The likes of Pittard, Carlile, Hartlett, Ebert etc are either feast or famine.

for a thread you have no interest in, that is your second major investment in it.

carry on, little Tommy :hihi

Stop Port's run and they struggle
