We had some very i experienced players out there, got belted by the umps and had some really undisciplined acts that gave away frees and 50’s or at least contributed to easy scoring opportunities for Port.
We didn’t get smashed on the scoreboard, or clearances. Lapses in pressure and discipline cost us I reckon. With Lafau, banks, brown, Clark, trezise and Campbell all very inexperienced we did remarkably well.
Who had us a Monty to win given the outs? We did well. I hope we see some junior mids coming in next week. Nothing to be too concerned about except the bloody standard of umpiring.

Result was not unexpected , problem with average recruiting and not planning for the future . Looking forward to the mid season draft 
Edit- yes I am. Look at his time on ground, pressure acts, contested possessions, weight and lack of free kicks when being held and pushed around. Apologies for knee jerk response but Shai was everywhere all day running hard and getting good position to assist with scoring chains. I think your statement was pretty unfair on our best and most dangerous player today.

The effort was pretty good today. We just had too many players not up to AFL standard at the moment, some will never be. Dow, Banks, Lefau, Brown, Juddy and Miller. Trezise, Campbell and Mansell are more competitive but still finding their way. If you add in a rusty Lynch and a nearly finished Grimes and the list is in trouble.
The teams around our level are the Eagles, North and Hawthorn. I think the Carlton game may have been a bottom teams grand final. It's not going to be an easy fix. Let's get the recruiting manager right and start from there.

You may be right easy but the problems look much greater.
Grimes and McIntosh also were both poor and they don’t have too many brownie points left.
Nank great around the ground for most of the day but I thought we lost it when Soldo got on top in the 3rd.
Balta also busted his gut trying to help but against ultra tall opponents maybe Naismith should come in.
I definitely felt there was some romanticism to bringing newy back, but what specifically do you think he's doing wrong?
They went hard on the wrong draft.
We had a chance to stay strong with the 17 draft Higgins Coleman Jones & Balta

We have to bottom out unfortunately. We badly need top end talent from the next two drafts. Those picks in the twenties were handy but history shows they are still hit or miss and that wasn’t a particularly strong draft. When you take everything into account it was amazing that we got within 5 goals of them. On paper they should have win by 10 plus.
