GAME DAY Tigers V Bombers Dreamtime

I thought they beat us in the midfield with good run and spread for parts of the game. We still haven't quite got the defensive side of our game running at 100% yet - maybe a consequence of the new rules.

In some ways this game turned into the shoot-out that some were predicting against Adelaide.
Take out a 5min burst at the start of the last and they kicked 8 goals in the other 115mins. not sure that qualifies as a shoot-out.

Was at the ground & it was just like the old times witrh two Melbourne teams thrashing it out. No suffocating West Cokers in sight was a absolute joy. It appeared to me Tiger clad diehards outnumbered the Bombers both at the ground & training it in. Most people at the ground wore team colours so I do not think there were too many Eagles/Dockers at the game. Bombers roar appeared to be louder than the Tigers as I assume more Bombers were up in the stands with the roof reverberating the roar. I was in the open air seven seats from the wing & every where you looked Tigers clearly out numbered the Bomber fans at ground level open air seats. Great night out & it a magic stadium no matter where you sit. Not going next week as it just aint a joy mixing with that West Coke lot even if you win.

Surprised there were so many west australians wearing tiger and bomber colors. doubt eagle and docker fans would go out and buy other team colors just for the night.

Every second Essendon wanker in the media ie Lloyd, Robinson, Sheedy keep running with the line they had the overwhelming support. ... I prefer your your unbiased assessment @Tigaman

We loaned out a number of tiger scarves to neutral mates who wanted to colour up for the Tigers....there were a lot of neutrals in their eagles gear at the game. I reckon the splash of yellow from them helped to boost the look of tigers in the crowd. Plenty of booing from these clowns as well! A lot of neutrals wearing something red or yellow as opposed to merch as well.

Sure, if you take out the part where they kicked a heap of goals then it wasn't a shoot out

But fair point Brodders, we did contain them for much of the game.

For those who don't know, listen or care..... Dwayne Russell has this phone in segment beginning each show named Midday Madness. ..

Had an Essendon supporter ring in and claim they were robbed of the game due to the umpiring. .. no problem with that.... heard plenty of ours do likewise at times.

Took it to a new level with how to fix the issue. .... Each club brings their own umpire, with the AFL providing the 3rd... Actually, I thought he was kidding .... he wasn't!
(Didn't realise their supporters were part of the doping program)

What I learnt tonight

- the Pickett in the ruck has lost its sheen - no longer works
- loved Chols game but he cant ruck a whole game yet - will be a great backup when Nank returns
- we missed grunt and some run in the back half - missed young Mansell to be honest
- Aarts is easily best 22 by a stretch
- CCJ will be a star - was able to influence scores even when double teamed, another 2 goal game excellent
- RCD perhaps needs a rest, seemed to struggle on the heavy ground, hands his spot to Lambert next week
- Balta back to his best - one of our best defenders at times tonight, provides great run for a big man
- we are still getting sliced open at times though the middle - something not clicking at the moment
- 7 goals in a row - its been a long time between drinks since we did that in half a quarter.

- 4 pts is 4 pts but this felt like more.
Great post - just wanted to chime in with a couple of additions / thoughts.

- Agree that the Pickett ruck experiment has lost most of its sheen; with Nank likely back real soon there should be little need for it except for perhaps selected 2nd ruck opponents. He does often get his hands on the ball in the follow up play - which is the real object of the exercise. Its actually not the centre bounce that worries me its being out-marked around the ground.
- Whilst on Pickett, just don't understand the hate on here about him. I. think he is our best tackler (or close second to Jack Graham). His ability to close down the space to an opponent is second to none. Yes, he does get caught a little more than desirable and he does miss short targets on occasions but his running, tackling, and pressure is elite!
- Hopefully Chol can get up to 40% ruck time - Nank can do 60%. I thought it was great that he could take intercept marks (Nank like). His centre square ruck work is arguably better than Nanks! His intercept marking will keep him in the team and make him more invaluable. He can also float forward - he is efficient in front of goal - rarely misses!
- I would like to see Mansell back in and Baker on ball / half forward - like him kicking into forward 50!
- Our backline is still settling down - Vlaustin, Grimes and Astbury have all missed time and their re-connection is still a work in progress. Remember that this area of the ground has been relatively immune from injury over the last few years - Short, Vlaustin, Grimes, Astbury, Balta, Baker have rarely missed a game.
- I think CCJ will be a player but will be bumped out when Lynch is back. Is a great prospect but 2022 is probably his year.
- RCD probably does need a break - whilst he is a little older than most debutants - 5/6 games in the midfield is a lot for a rookie.

i thought the commentators were way off when they said it was a closer game than 39 points. beside the little flurry at the start of the last week controlled the game with ease, and i reckon we gave the bombers about 15 of their 12 goals with stupid mistakes- mistakes we wont make in September.
Apparently on expected scores we were 5 point winners. With that said I agree we were generally dominant except when we shot ourselves in the foot. So a lot of the expected score for the oppo we should be able to tidy up.

Brave been thrown out of the dictionary. The Age say Bombers were valiant.

Really?

No wonder they haven't won a final this century.

I'll say really again. 229 frees for in 2021 and 215 against, maybe they're just not used to not having the umpires on side, we're at 195-250 so they would presumably be protesting out the front of AFL House if they were treated like us.

Watched the replay and this time had the sub titles on.

Wow!! How the commentators were all over the Bombers with comments like brilliant, special and you name it.

Anything the Tigers did was just run of the mill comment.

What a lot of wankers.

We let a non-finalist team score 84 points against us, with almost 50% of that score occurring in a 15-minute window.

That 15-minute window is happening more often this year.

Why is it happening?
They also had one of their best mids out for the whole game and a couple more injuries during. Not a convincing win by us

You forget that the Bombers are coming from a very low base so anything remotely good is better that their usual dross. On the other hand we are coming form a very high level so even the magical parts of a game are run of the mill such is our dominance when compared to the Bombers

Geez....Bolts had 68 family members at the game and Dash Kam had 50.
Club should think about buying a plane so we can fly the WA families over for home games ...
Shai's family can turn left.....
Everyone else..... best available!
