GAME DAY THREAD - TIGES V HAWKS

Happy to start slow and looking a bit disinterested. Much like how we started in 2019 and 2020.
Dusty the reverse, already has 6 brownlow votes to his name :) .

Needs a lift this bloke, been 3 years since he has won our B&F and only has two.

+3 free kicks. (25-23)
Where were they paid in the 3rd row of the southern stand.
The only free kick i remember in our forward 50, was when Tippa got caught holding the ball.
We slaughtered them for free kicks in the third qtr. Didn't do much with them but we got them.

Played like millionaires at times. Wasteful and sloppy but far too good for Hawthorn. Our delivery into the forward 50 was really poor at times
Bank the win and we will play a lot better than that.

I *smile* hate this sub *smile*. ... kids will become disillusioned playing, not playing, playing 15minutes, getting dropped, losing match fitness. ..... next thing ya know come seasons end they want out or are moved out!
If they want 23 blokes make it 5 on the bench and be done with it!
I'm bumping my post and doubling down..... I *smile* really really hate the *smile* sub rule.... Vlastuin was nearly a cheat and Ross is having his development *smile* with!

Back from the game. Very dull. Clarko did flood but he flooded the midfield rather than the defence, he did roll them back into defence at times but he made it hard for us to move the ball. Regularly we'd be in their half and we would have 4 or 5 defenders back with only 2 hawks with them.

Ball use inside 50 was about as bad as I've seen it.

Its one of those games where you bank the 4 points and then never speak about it again.

Mitchell has to be the worst brownlow medallist ever. Had 20 in the first half, for 18m gained. Grimes had more with only 3 disposals.

Home after the match, both myself n 8 yo agreed it wasn’t much chop... highlighted by the fact that neither of us could clearly pick a bog from either side....
FWIW I went with broad... looked cleanest with his tog.

If he gets the 3 votes today then it proves that the umps only look at stats and it makes a mockery of the award.

Martin for me was clearly the most impactful player forward of centre and should get the 3. I wouldn't be surprised to see Jiath in the votes, he reads the play really well and was really good today.

The other stat that really shows how little impact his touches have is 37 touches (29 efficient), 4 score involvements. Compare that to Martins 11 score involvements from 22 efficient disposals. So essentially every 2 efficient disposals from Dusty and we score.

We are obviously below par especially with ball in hand.

As long as we rack up 4 points and keep in touch with or remain in the top 4 come softer grounds and the depths of Winter we we start rolling.

Beating the Swans next week is vital.

Listened to 2 x-players on radio after the game. Goddard, who is so unlikeable you'd think he played for Geelong, said Burgoyne blanketed Martin?? WTF? Martin was the tigers best, and unless you work off supercoach stats should get the 3 brownlow votes. And Kane Cornes also had some praise for Burgoyne? Burgoyne was awful. Martin could have had 4 if he really wanted. Easily the most influential player in the match.

Bank the win.

Early season and we need to get the wins on the board so we can surge at the end.

So much more short passing in the game now, are the morons in the media going to start complaining about that? The media's influence has a lot to do with the way the game has become less contested. Nowhere near as fast as last week's game against Carlton.

A few players need to lift:
Rioli got involved a few times but seemed to be missing for a fair amount of the game.
Aarts was ok but you wonder how well he will do against better opposition.
Caddy I can't see keeping his spot, just a bit slow for the way the game is being played.

I thought Pickett was fine, needs to lift a notch but getting involved and hurting opposition players.
Cotchin looked rusty, especially his kicking.

We need to get games into some of the youngsters: Ross, RCD, etc. Maybe some of the players still dusting out the cobwebs could have a go in the VFL.

Defence was more solid than last week and that was a good sign. We let Carlton score too easily last week at times.

Sydney will be harder next week so we will need to be a bit better.

Gee how good would Martin have been if he wasn't "blanketed" by Burgoyne. Agree he was the most influential player on the ground today.
