Thread title mentions two teams in three years that we've mentally ruined. Who knows for certain just yet, but we might actually have damaged four teams in four years.
Crowbaits n GeeWhizz are the obvious two mentally damaged by playing us in a Grannie, but there's subtleties yet at play for the other two teams.
Consider Colonwood's journey since the day we inadvertently stumbled in the Prelim and allowed them to gaze upon the Holy Grail of footy with fingers outstretched. Five goal lead early in the game with a hand seemingly grasped around the cup, then they let it slip and allowed an interstate team to run over the top of them at their home ground and steal the glory away.
2019 Colonwood claw their way back into a losing prelim, running all over the top of Gee Whizz yet failing again by millimetres to gain another chance at the glory of another flag attempt.
2020 their covid hub infringements almost on a par with ours, they again stumble in their finals series, missing all opportunity for another flag assault. This is then compounded by their implosion of salary cap pressure resulting in possibly the dirtiest, narkiest trade period any club has experienced. followed up by the rolling avalanche of systemic racism that has plagued the club n forced El Presidente Eddieeeee into a humiliating stumbling retreat from all things footy.
2021 has barely begun following the Moggies second half premiership choke against the might of our Tigers. But to this point the Moggies in their desperation for one last flag for all their champions have bolstered their playing list by bringing in several more old age pensioners and traded away the future of the three first round draft picks they had, to strengthen their current attack. Pity they've paid no attention to the rule changes the AFL have brought about and retained their coach who has implemented no changes to their game style retaining the same old stodgy pass n prop match tactics that has seen them fall short in finals year after year. No one can yet be certain what this year will bring for the Moggies but with half their regular senior players being the stars that are hovering over the pensioner precipice and only a smattering of reasonable players in either their premium years, or young stars shining brightly already. There's likely to be an avalanche of massive proportions to yet roll down over the Moggies.
