The worst one for me was the Bachar Houli disgrace. Sure he flung his arm back to break free from the Bloos player, but it was not a deliberate strike. It was unlucky for both that he hit him flush & did some damage.
Bachar had never been reported or sanctioned AT ANY LEVEL OF FOOTBALL HE PLAYED IN, but he was absolutely smashed by the media. He gets a 2 week penalty which I thought was 1 week too many. What happens next, Gil the "smiling" flog does something that's NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE ( Or since mind you) steps in & extends the penalty to 4 weeks. Absolute bull"smile"
That is one of many reasons that I think Gil is an Absolutely disgusting CEO of the competition. Flog of the highest order
Good point. This incident is very close to being on level with the Tyrone one for me. Why I think the Tyrone one was worse is that literally in the same passage of play, they chose to ignore the DELIBERATE actions of one player (the instigator), yet pour hot coals on Tyrone who did it with a large element of accident.
Joel Selwood gets away with murder because the media paint everything he does as him being so tough. They still whinge about Cothin in the prelim not getting suspended. Now what Cotchin did was what I call tough. When you watch that replay, he actually got the ball before the contact occurred.
Also how much garbage was it in 2017 when Richmond gave Geelong a serving in the MCG final. Prior to that Geelong loved playing Richmond at the MCG, and had beaten Richmond for something like 13 games straight. It all became an issue when the Tigers beat Geelong that day and the media whinging about how it was unfair and that Geelong should have been allowed to play at the cattery. There was so much hypocrisy in the media over this.
1) Richmond had played Geelong many times at the cattery in the 2000's including having played them there earlier that year. Teams like Hawthorn, Collingwood, Essendon and Carlton never had played there. The excuse for them is that they are big drawing teams so they don't want to lose out on crowd numbers that would otherwise attend the MCG. However, Richmond despite getting the raw deal on their draw for years (playing games against North in tassie, Geelong in Geelong, not guaranteed to play Essendon or Collingwood twice every year etc), still would get the most supporters at the gate each season. Never was there an argument that these teams should play regular season games at Geelong.
2) Prior to that final, Geelong in previous years played finals at the MCG against teams like Collingwood or Hawthorn with Geelong being the higher ranked team. Why was there never an outcry for those games to be played at the cattery? As mentioned those teams never play Geelong at their home ground in regular season, so even more there should have been an outcry during those finals, but we didn't hear a peep.
3) Here is the clincher. After all the bitching and moaning about how Geelong should have been allowed to play Richmond at the cattery and how unfair it was, Geelong play their next final against Sydney at...... THE MCG! Their flog coach Chris Scott who was moaning about not being allowed to play at the cattery the week before, would have been granted to play this game there if they lobbied for it. As it turned out they gave tickets away for this game to try and fill it up. So there are two parts of hypocrisy at play here. First if Chris Scott was so salty that he didn't get to play the Richmond game at the cattery, then why didn't he lobby for the Sydney game to be played there? He would have got it too. However, the biggest hypocrisy in my mind is the MEDIA. Why didn't they talk this game up at all and question why Geelong didn't even try to have this game to be played at Geelong? It was such a huge issue the week before, but there was no mention of it for this game. Geelong ended up beating Sydney pretty easily in the end, so the MCG was not really an issue.
So yep, I hate the current day media and there is no one that brings balance into it all.
