Yesterdays game was great to watch, but it had something for in it that should worry the other 17 clubs.
Gws are topped to the brim with top end talent.
Yesterday Kids like Ash (18) Cumming (21) Green (19) Hately (19) Taylor (20).
Brereton even mentioned something on the same lines yesterday “Its unsual to see a pick 56 running around for GWS”. He was referring to Langdon.
They get rid of semi ok footballers and get gold back 2 first rounders for treloar, 2 firsr rounders Sheild, Pick 3 for McCarthy, lobb picks 11 & 19,
Wilson 2nd round pick from freo.

how will we keep up? We lose ellis and get pick 70 back. He has just won his 2nd flag and the AFl compensate us with a late 2nd round seiection.
While they continue to get gold picks and we continue to get bottom of the barrell selections,
I dont like the direction footy is going

Good thread. I was worried by what I saw yesterday too. Team AFL are looking very dangerous.
Coniglio a massive inclusion. Haynes looks to have gone up a level. Hopper & Perryman too.
They were missing Davis, Ward, Taranto & Reid too from that team yesterday.
Their game style picked us apart a little. We'll be looking at that closely.

After their embarrassment last season it will be them seeking redemption in 2020.
Don't think they'll be making Adelaide's errors either after 2017.
They will be right there come seasons end.

We just smashed them by 89 points in the GF. They can play their pretty football in March. We'll just pummel them in September again. They can have 30 first rounders.

Yep. Some need to watch the last few minutes of the last to see them get nervous and start to fumble in defence.

Yesterday was a Richmond tease....to the opposition (not the fans)

All good poinyts BUT reguardless it does not seem above board that they get such good compo along with such a large academy selection each and every year.... It is just chock a block full of top end talent it is only a matter of time till they start to dominate the comp..

Yep, we put the pressure on in bursts yesterday and they crumbled like they did in the GF. I don't care that it wasn't as consistent as the GF. They don't even give away a cup for the Marsh any more. Pointless bringing your A game for that.

I've been worried about GWS for years but they never seem to quite get there. Finals has always been their big downfall. They don't like pressure. No doubt they by pure quantity of numbers, it'll all come together sooner than later. The talent is unbelievable. Definitely not a work-horse blue collar team like the Tigers.

They didn't look the same as Adelaide did after 2017.

Adelaide looked like they felt they should have been handed the cup anyway. GWS looked like they knew they needed to go up a level and not hit the GF after 3 weeks of dour, tiring finals.

Adelaide looked like they thought they were robbed and we just beat them by some fluke. GWS looked like they knew they were beaten by a better team that had just shown them the level to aspire to.

Chalk and cheese, GWS are going to be back. The favours they get from the AFL will also help but GWS are trying to build a genuine culture and are likely to break through in the next 5 years.

Me either, although winning a couple of flags has helped paper over things.

The draft and the salary cap are supposed to level the playing field. But every year they introduce something completely different that undermines the equality objective. Exhibit A, academies.

GWS were good yesterday but for the most part were under no pressure, they looked flakey/fumbly when we turned the heat on but gave them nothing they can go away & study on. Thier issue has always been when the heat is on & not sure how that will change. Happy for them to peak now.
For us it's great we have a lot of improvement in us at this time of yr.

though i agree in regards to the top end talent it's hard to get a too much of a read in terms of style and game plans yet. giants had 460 total disposals...absolute massive number. 150 more than us yet we had more inside 50's and more contested possessions. I felt we sat back a bit and let them share the ball around backslapping each other on getting the ball about 35 times each. Felt when we put foot down with dusty in middle we got back into it.

They had an astronomical amount of the ball. That won't happen in the real game. They will be up there but its no certainty. Plus no top 8 team can throw in a game where they put tools down like giants can.

You point in terms of sustained success though and the talent they have is very valid. Luckily we get green back in 2 years!

I thought their early display of handball around the packs is something they've been lacking. Then they turned it off. GWS winning the flag is not gonna destroy the game. GWS winning it 5 times in a row might.

On one hand a valid point Zip & on the other hand we have been saying this about the Giants for the last how many years.

They have kept the good eggs and let the soft or off eggs go.
They kept Whitfield, Congilio, Hopper, kelly, haynes and Greene.

How many first round picks have they had since inception? It would have to be around 50, I think. They must be averaging 5 or 6 each year. Maybe they have had slightly short of 50 but it is an enormous number when you that consider a moderately successful team has probably taken no more than 7 or 8 first round picks during the same period.

If you look only at top 10 picks, it would be even worse.

It is a weight of numbers thing. The dam wall will eventually burst.

Yep we know that the AFL are desperate for their teams to succeed & grow their franchises.
I'm glad we've won a couple of flags already & spoiled their best laid plans in the process. Be nice to do it again..

Backs up what you said re getting top picks for over rated half decent players, which will keep them young & a potential contender for years to come.

There are going to a very good team and will be for awhile with all that talent .. there biggest weakness is they have little Support . Look at the MightyTigers and teams like Collingwood .. massive support massive passion . Something GWS hasn't got .

We have had massive support since jesus was walking around.
The supporters didn't help when carlton, north and port slapped us out the finals.
The 75000 supporters didn't help when we lost to Essendon in the fosters Cup in 93.
The 67000 supporters watched Ablett kick a 10 goals in a final.
Ive never seen a supporter kick a goal.
With your logic Collingwood would have 76 premierships.
