after the Vic Premier's announcement today that fans will be banned from the Grand Prix, IMO there is zero chance 90,000 of us will be allowed in to the G next week. But I think its more likely the season will be pushed back a couple of weeks

Tend to agree.

Hope not as one flies out tomorrow which includes being in Melbourne for Round 1(two matches). Bit of hope is that it is not an international event like the GP where one is hearing some prima donna drivers have got cold feet & departed for overseas last night thus forcing it to be pulled from the toilet shelf.

I thing the best solution for the AFL season, is to suspend the start of the season for 5 weeks and move to a 17 week season where everyone plays each other once.

It seems the most logical scenario and gives them 6 weeks to assess whether the season even starts or not, as we will have a much better idea of how hard Australia will be hit in 6 weeks time.

It sure will be interesting.

Will Andrews take the huge popularity hit by keeping people out of AFL games/ postponing the season/ other?

Apparently only Gold Coast, GWS and Melbourne home games to allow fans because they don’t constitute mass gatherings....

yep, agree with this...

I think realistically that in order to be doing the right thing with regard to the spread of the virus, and to keep the general public (supporters) on side, Dan should just make Thursday night a lock out as opposed to a sell out....

I can’t see how delaying the start of the season for a few weeks would change anything....there will be many more cases of the virus spreading amongst us in a months time compared to now

A postponement means nothing this Virus is not going away any time soon .
Play as scheduled but no crowds....

This could be a No season.
This virus wont just disappear unless they produce a cure.
With reports up to 60% of the population will get it.
I cant see how the season will proceed in any way.

I would be fine with a 17 game season, but if we delay the season by 4 weeks, we can still have a 22 game season by cancelling the byes and holding the GF 2 weeks later.

There is no way they will postpone the season - but it is almost guaranteed that it will be played in an empty stadium now.

Note I also think the empty stadium scenario will only happen if the state or fed governments mandate it as the AFL don’t have the nads to make that decision - they are addicted to money money money, in a rich mans world.

The season will be postponed for 6 weeks. They will remove the bye round and everyone will play each other once. If things are worse in 6 weeks time the season will be cancelled. You heard it here first.

Given the cost of running a club including player payments is at least $20 million a year. A cancelled season will send 5 to 6 clubs to the wall. AFL won't have any money coming in either so won't be able to prop them up. Thank Christ this didn't hit 10 years ago or we would be the first to go. Now we are one of the few safe clubs
