What we have to realise is that there can only be so many changes next year. Obviously a number of current players are in doubt as to their future at the Richmond Football Club. Such players would have to include
- Clinton King
- Craig Biddiscombe
- Royce Vardy
- Mills
- Rogers
- Dragicevic
- Duncan Kelleway
- Pettifer
- Houlihan
- Adam Pickering
- Tim Fleming
- Rory Hilton
Many of these players will have no trade value as far as other clubs go.
Leon Cameron has already announed his retirement and there is a fair chance that some other players not on the above list will be traded.
If the club takes for arguments sake 14 players off the list and replaces them with fourteen seventeen year old hopefuls, come round 1 next year the club will only have about 25 players that are ready to play AFL Football.
In any case probably half of these 14 new players would have been taken at pick 70 or after in the national draft and there is every chance that some of these kids will have less to offer the Richmond Football Club than some of the players I have listed above.
My point is this - Sure we do need change and we need plenty of them. However you can't turn over half of your list in one year and replace them all with kids as many of the kids (especially at pick 70 and after) simply won't be up to it.
AS to the Duncan Kelleway argument - Dunk has been a great ambassador for the Tigers and has given his all. There are certainly about 8 to 10 players on ths list that I would be getting rid of before I got rid of Dunk. He has the tiger spirit in him. I would rather see him stay on for 1 season too long rather than see some of the other 'neverwillbe's' put on the tiger jumper next year.
