This morning is torture.

What's this bloody press conference about? What time is it happening?

I was talking to Dunc a few weeks ago and he gave me the impression he was looking forward to getting fit for next season over summer.

Are the press just speculating about the imminent announcement of his retirement or is it fact?

Geez how much heartbreak can a girl take in one week? :'(

All the times over the last few years when I've almost been a one girl band in support of Dunc, it won't be the same not having to go against the flow to defend his good name.

A couple of years ago on TigerFury we were asked to nominate our favourite player and write an article on them.

You don't need three guesses to work out who I chose.

Duncan Kellaway

Duncan Kellaway is the first player Spud selects. Sure his kicking isn't up to Harry Kewells' accuracy but he'll get yer man !!!

Duncan Kellaway : a profile by Rosy.
I certainly drew the winning straw when I nominated Duncan Kellaway as my favourite player.
Everyone who's heart bleeds yellow and black would know of Duncan's immense value to our team already. He is courage and determination personified. He is lightly built, but tough as old boots. The esteem in which he is held at our club is obvious when Danny Frawley states publicly that Duncan is the first player chosen for our team each week. If he is fit he is an automatic selection. He is one player on our list who could walk into any of the other 15 clubs and get a game straight away.

Opposition supporters would know of Duncan's value to Richmond. They know they might as well be a player short because whoever Dunc plays on will rendered ineffective. He takes big scalps week in week out, and often racks up more possessions than the Hirds, Buckleys, McLeods etc that he takes out of the game. Duncan is of great value to the respectability of The Richmond Football club. He is as honest and fair as any player who ever pulled on footy boots, but he manages to combine this with a determination that lets his opponent know he won't stand any nonsense.

There is some conjecture that Dunc shouldn't be in the team because on the odd occasion one of his kicks may go a bit wayward. There are the jokes that he needs a skill reconstruction, that he failed Vic kick etc. These comments obviously come from people who sit in corporate boxes and know SFA about football. They just go for the social kudos and free plonk. (haha couldn't resist) Any grass roots football supporter and anyone who knows anything about the game would forgive Dunc a miskick every now and again. He is in the team to stop an opposition player tearing us to shreds. The rest of our team should have the silky skills to get the ball through our goals. That isn't Duncan's purpose in the team, although he is becoming a regular goal kicker despite that fact.

Duncan has great leadership skills and is always cool under pressure. He is loved and respected by all. He will never be captain of Richmond, but he is a leader just the same. To me the greatest value Duncan Kellaway is to Richmond is his massive heart. Dunc is to football what Phar Lap was to racing. He has a heart that will be remembered in football immortality long after he has gone to the great footy ground in the sky.

I for one hope this press conference is about something other than Duncan kellaway hanging up his boots. :(

I'm hoping it's not Dunc retiring... even if I do close my eyes and go "please don't kick it, please don't kick it" whenever he gets the ball ;D No Doubt Duncan gives his all for the yellow and black.

I knew Dunc wouldn't tell me porkies. ;)

Seems the media were wrong in their speculation.

About as much faith as the majority of people on the message boards.

If Dunc finds his body isn't up to it pre season he'll do the honourable thing. If he's fit there's still a role for him in our team.

Go Dunc, prove everyone wrong.

Glad the press conference wasn't about Dunc, I've been in turmoil all morning deciding whether to retire the #3 in my username or not. ;D

Most players play 1 year too many. In the past with no salary caps and drafts that did not matter. However now it does. So if DK does a preseason and decides not to go on he still is in the cap (or 50% as he is a veteran).
This can stop us getting another player to boost the list.
He should let the club know before the draft what his intentions are.
I think he should be given a Testimonial Dinner (allowed within the cap) then retire. This way everyone who wants can pay their respects and it is all above board.
WCE is doing this for Matera and McIntosh and I presume Carlton for Ratten etc.

Has anyone heard anything to confirm that Duncan is retiring, or was it the media speculating / making a mistake.

It was a media mistake Chelle. Early in the morning they said it was duncan who was retiring then around 11am they corrected themselves.

Duncan and Matty Rogers should be following Leon's lead and retire also and let the Club rebuild its list.

Good isn't it Tiggy. Dunc has a long career ahead if the injury Gods are kinder to him. He's had a couple of seasons off so has the playing body of a 25 yo still. mmmmm ;)

Sorry ,but the reason the tigers are no good, as we fall in love with Duds who cant kick.
I have never read so much rubbish.
Didnt any of you see Duncan Kellaway run into a open goal on the weekend and miss the goals completely, that was from 35 metres out, enough is enough.
If you keep the Duncan Kellways of this world ,Richmond are heading no where.
Do the supporters want Richmond to miss the finals every year.?
Do you like torturing yourselves.?
Have a look at the Top team in Port and watch there kicking skills on the weekend.
They deliver the ball lace up every time and hit players on the chest, not 5 metres above there head.
Fair dinkum! ::)
Sorry Duncan, do Richmond a favor and retire, your skills arent up to elite standards, football has unfortunately pass you. Join Broderick and Sziller at east Burwood.

;D ;D ;D

If we got rid of everyone in the team who can't kick to perfection we'd have very few players left. Cogs isn't beyond spraying them, Richo can be attrocious.

It's a matter of weighing up the positives and negatives of a player.

Dunc has been far from our worst player the last few weeks. On the negative side his kicking can be a bit wonky. On the positive side he is tough, can handball, will get in under packs, can stop an opposition player, is a nice guy, is sooooo handsome.....ok I digress, ha.

Weigh that up against Pettifer. He doesn't have one of Dunc's attributes and who knows if he can kick if he doesn't get the ball.

Changing the list has to be a gradual thing and if we can only get rid of 6-8 players then a fit Duncan Kellaway would still have a spot in the side.

He doesn't cost much to run next year either.

If the numbers we can give the chop are limited there would be worse players to keep on than Dunc. He may not be perfect, but then again very few of our players are. At least he's got balls and gives 100% every time he plays.

Have any of you considered the possiblity of Houlihan, Rogers, and D kellaway all remaining on our list?

What a disgrace!

If this happens, I wont be buying a membership.

I hope RFC never get to the stage where they pick a team only on goal kicking accuracy, we'd never make up the numbers to get on the field. There are some Richmond forwards who miss a "set shot" from 35m out!
Dunc would be one of my first picks if only on the basis of his big heart and commitment. But as someone once said you wouldn't want to sit at the Kellaway table at Xmas, as there wouldn't be any crumbs left.

DUNCAN LOVERS I WANT A RESPONSE! ;D

Surely you lot are kidding about Duncan still having something to offer the footy club as a player? Admit that you think he is hot, that he gives his all, but please stop the B.S about him actually having value to the team. He is 4 years past his prime, and in his prime he was nothing but a battler.

Duncan lacks 3 vital components that are needed to compete in modern day football:

1. Footy smarts
2. Skills
3. Pace

He does, however posess:
1. Heroic courage
2. Discipline and dedication
3. Determination

IMO he can't continue playing with these 3 things alone.

For God sake!!!!

Cant you people see that his time has come. Rosy, surely even you can put affection aside for common sence.

Injury prone, too slow, cant kick, what more do you want.

Duncan, you've been a great player for Richmond but please retire gracefully, your time has come.

What chances do you give of that happening cracker?

Rogo is contracted. I'd think he wouldn't be tradeable, so unless they can arrange an under the table payment he'll still be there.

Dunc will depend on his body. If he thinks he's over his injury problems I expect him to front up again. Danny has said several times this year how he wishes Dunc was in the team.

Houla I'm not sure about, though I won't be surprised if he stays.

I wish someone else heard Greg millers pre game interview on 3Lo on Sunday. He said words to the effect that you have to have players on your list and can only make so many changes. He said that it's not worth getting soemone for the sake of it because the later picks still cost the club a minimum of $120,000.

I got the feeling changes won't be as drastic as we all anticipate.

Rosy,

If we dont make drastic changes this year, we will be the Carlton or Western Bulldogs of the future.

This is such a short term/short sighted approach that will damage the club for years to come. Its the same short sighted approach that has put us where we are now.

Can you imagine what will happen next year if these hacks get a run before *smile*.

Youth are the future.

I agree cracker, I wasn't giving an opinion on what I think should happen, rather what I think could possibly happen.
Can't you imagine a scenario where those 3 players, rightly or wrongly, are kept on?
