Duncan must retire thread.

look i aggreez as we need to develop our list .but if we had a strong list ide say no, but we need to develop youth, so nows the time to bite the bullet and rebuild

I have my reservations.

We need someone that will lead by example. Duncan plays each game will his heart and soul.

We need some exprienced players in order to help the development of the up and comers.

I hope Duncan goes on and remains injury free.

Theres a dozen I would get rid of before I worried about trying to get rid of killer( just hope he can get the body to work a bit longer).

Duncan is coming to the end of his career but an old Duncan is still better than about 10 or 12 other younger players that we still have on our list.

Dunk has given his all for the yellow and black and he will know if the time is right to give it away.

For Gods sake get off his back.

He will go when he is good and ready, he deserves a bit more respect than the crap that has been doing the rounds on here lately.

i agree tiggytam
i'll take a half fit DK over a fully fit Petticot, Kingy, Bowdo, Bidders, Vards, etc etc.
having said that i hope he can improve his fitness and go around again
go the dunk

sure, he may not be playing as well as he used to, but he still plays with that same passion and desire to win that he's always had. he shoulnt retire yet.

Its very simple, If Duncan plays next year, we WONT make the finals.
Dont you people realise our foot skills are terrible.
Didnt any of you watch Port play with us last week.
I am not being hard just fair.
Duncan foot skills are terrible.

Jackstar although I agree duncan can't kick and should give it away in the long-term interests of the RFC so we can (re)build a quality list, you can't blame him for us not making the finals this year or the next. He's hardly played the last 2 years due to injury.

agree with you Mightytiges although we cannot have Duncan Kellaway type players kicking the ball over players heads all the time.
We have to make some hard decisions otherwise we are going no where.
Duncan Kellaway has been a very loyal and dedicated footballer to the Richmond Football Club but unfortunately for him, the game has changed in a way that foot skills are extremely important.
Whoever thought 4 years ago the switching and flooding would become a highly important skill of the game.
Can you imagine Duncan Kellway trying to switch across defensive 50, no I cant, I cant imagine him kicking inside 50 to a lead either. or have a shot at goal which he tried to do on Sunday and made a goose of himself.
Every player now is required to have outstanding foot skills, meaning kick the footy at least 50 metres to a target.
does anyone ever take notice of how many times we get possesion of the footy, just as much as the opposittion teams, problem is we dont find the target.
I knows hes been great but Football HAS changed, as Leon cameron mentioned yesterday.

C'mon guys, lets get fair dinkum here, Duncan has been a good servant of RFC but his time is clearly up. You can have all the passion, commitment, desire etc but when your body can't do the things your mind is telling it to do, your time is up.
Thanks for your years of loyalty and committment but it's time to hang up the boots.

Yeah, tend to agree Boss. Leon mentioned that he wanted to retire before he started making a fool of himself. I'm afraid Duncan is starting to do that, and it is out of love and respect for what he's done that I'd like to see him retire gracefully - now. The game has just gotten faster and faster and more and more skillful... and let's face it, he just can't crack it anymore on pure guts.

Don't disagree with you there jackstar. Foot skills have become increasingly important in modern footy as teams try to minimize kicking to a contest as much as possible. If you can't hit targets or kick to a teamamtes' advantage in a 1 on 1 contest you'll be exposed in no time and the team pays through giving up goals to the opposition on the rebound (something we as a side have now become specialists at doing :( ). It would also help if we had a coach who also knew something about the way modern footy is played and drilled it into the players on the training track instead of having our blokes handballing 20 times in a row like the footy's a handgrenade and going nowhere.

I'd also rather keep Dunc than the likes of Houlihan, Pettifer, Mills, Nicholls etc. But I'd rather see him go out now with some pride than have him hang around and be brought in and out of the team like a hack. Where is the dignity in staying when your best days are behind you?

Duncan and Rogers must retire. If they don't they are being plain selfish and will learn the hard way playing in the VFL with duds.

Get rid of him along with the other names mentioned if he is running around delivering helicopter passes next year they are not serious......we all know the courage aspect before you jump down my throat but it is more than that he has no skill and it cannot be tolerated in this day and age. The time for sentiment is over I say if he wont retire he needs to be sacked.

DK was a great player for the RFC and i cant beleive how some ppl are talking aout him on this board. He deserves respect.

I would love to see Dunc play another yr, but only if he has a good pre season, i would hate for him to play 1 yr to long and spend most of his time in the VFL. I wish more players at richmond would play with his passion and heart.

If he has any dignity left, he should go tomorrow.
If he plays next year he is playing for selfish reasons only. And if he does play next year you have to really question the sanity of the coaching panel who havent got the brains to tap someone on the shoulder who is clearly not up to VFL standard, let alone AFL.

Its a tough call on whether Dunc should retire this year or continue on. You only need to look at the list of players YT put forward to see that we have about 14 players who are not up to standard yet at best only half of them will be delisted this year.

IMHO he should retire while he still has dignity and not do a Mick Martyn and embarress us all. Its unfortunate that some less deserving players will still be on the list next year and probably getting a game but as others have said, its time to move forward and unfortunately for Dunc he's not part of the future.

Nobody would question Duncan's contribution to the club. Its what he can do for the future. Wouldn't it be better for Richmond to find a young player and give them a go. If Duncan does stay on, lets hope that its done on the basis of how he performs preseason. If hes not up to it promote a rookie.
