Dreamtime V. Lady Bombers

Sheeran a class above all Tigers tonight.

Only one good thing about the draw, finals are locked in. Hawks will smack us next week.

Yep. Snowbourne lost. We can still make top 4 as we play the Dorks at home. I heard they are becoming as cocky as the mens.

Yeah, Essendon may be a good team and not easy to beat, but we have a fair number of things to work on if we want to get to top 4.

Like the men, the women seem to like kicking the ball to a static player, I really hate that. Kicking to an opposition player happens too often too, or kicking to a contest where the opposition have taller players. Bit too much fumbling too and marking needs to improve.

There are a lot of areas we need to improve, but I don't think the amount of improvement is all that large. If we can just get a bit better in a number of areas we can be a threat.

Still, guaranteed finals now and I never thought we would make top 4. There are 4 teams who really are just better than we are.

See if we can win a final.

Again thought we over handballed especially in slippery conditions and again we are not overly skilled with handball at the best of times . When we stopped over using it , upt the ante and put more pressure on and used a little more footy iq we were all over them , that’s not the first time we’ve seen that this season.

I’d like to see us use McKenzie more as a forward , easily our best mark and kick and though we still need her in the midfield we’ve got Conti and Sherrin consistently playing well in there , I think McKenzie could make a huge impact on the scoreboard and have the Skip get a lesser opponent, the G Train just needs to get angrier imho , don’t be afraid to hurt the opposition.

Bacon looks like she could become very good , Fords showing signs , Kelly is in carrier form , though I’d really like to see Luke back out there showing true aggression.

Whatever the result and I'm not sure how they fix it. But the 20 players around the ball which causes ball up after ball up.
The girls look tired after a good run, that's 3 games without a win.
Lost to WC rnd 1, then draw with Essendon loses to Melbourne and North.
With Hawthorn to come next week.
If we lose next weekend, we will most likely be playing Freo away in the 1st week in the elimination.
It will be a bad result considering we were looking good for top 4 month ago.

thought it was a strange idea of the AFLW to take the teams to Darwin so late in the season
why not mid-way dreamtime?
heat and humidity never great for injuries and it looked like a few went down

Conditions up there were really tough. Both teams were out on their feet. At one stage Yassir looked like she’d just jumped in a pool, she was that covered in sweat.

Essendon parked the bus in the last 2 minutes, after their ruck went down.
Didn't even try to win, just stop Richmond scoring.
Both sides had players just about out on their feet.

When we had the ball, we looked the better team, but we gave them way too much easy ball.

I hope we take some learnings out of that last few minutes, with so many ball ups (thats all the Bombers wanted at the end) we had Kelly trying to spike it forward, which was an ok strategy aside from that was where all the Bomber numbers were. With several long kicks of the footy, I'd like Ferg to show them how we could deal with that better, a tap backwards out of stoppage with a handball back out to a player waiting for a shot at goal would have probably won us the game, we could ahve stationed, Hicks, Shevlin, McKenzie, all behind the stoppage to give us options when the ball came out.

Those 2 horrid bounces of the ball, certainly had me thinking we were going to struggle to win, the luck wasn't on our side, another day and the Brennan kick breaks to the left inside of the right, the Sheerin kick rolls onwards instead of back on itself and we win comfortably.

Another tough game coming up next week, hopefully the humidity hasn't taken too much out of the girls.

We had a very soft draw first 7 games.
Compare our favourable draw to that of Hawthorn. We have played in Darwin, Perth, Port Macquarie, Tassie, played a home game v Carlton at Carlton's ground. Even played a practice match in Brisbane. Haven't played Gold Coast, Footscray, St Kilda, Brisbane, Freo and Adelaide. Hawthorn have only played Adel interstate and Melb in Cairns. Dont play North, Bris, Freo, Port, Ess and Footscray. Only Footscray not in finals contention.

We lack a couple of key talls (without Brennan we lack scoring power). Greisner needs to give us something but so far produced very little (except for a 10 minute burst v Melbourne).

We have improved but are still a goal or two off the better sides (Norf, Adel Bris)

Really interested to see how we go V Hawthorn this week.

And, of course, the umpiring has not been kind to us - which goes without saying!

That looks more like a flop from the Bummer.
Looks like the Essendon player is blocking Sheerin, and Sheerin is watching the ball, she pushes the Essendon player out of her path, not intentionally into the umpire.
From watching the game, the Essendon player here was ducking and diving for most of the match.

Yep. I even wonder why this went straight to the tribunal??
