David Astbury, Thank You

DTLD was on a drip the night before.
Shocking selection decision that. Gives me the heebies thinking about that big Yank that night.

Thanks to Gee Whiz shitting the bed tonight, we might be seeing him again in a final this year, and if we don't beat the Cats it might well be in an Elimination.

As a few here have said - an extra game against the 8th best team could give marginal selections like Astbury and Prestia a chance to find some form for the big dance

We cant bring too many non match fit guys back with zero ressies games. Too many stores of teams getting rolled doing it.

DLTD misses this year unless we cop an injury back there for Leysy. He's the one we are covering.

Remember that grimes needs to come back in

so if dtld comes in, 2 from the backline have to be dropped

but agree with leysey big risk to bring in dtld

think our balance is pretty good with notorious and grimes playing tall

I'm in the Balta/Grimes camp.

No to half-fit Down To Love.

We're rushing Edwards back. That's a lot.

Balta - Astbury - Short
Vlastuin - Grimes - Houli

I would still have Broad in the team as we play 7 defenders

Yeah I am really on the fence with this one. Leave it to the match committee to decide whether he is fit enough.

I see Edwards and Prestia as being of more importance to our chances this year - so does three potentially underdone players tip the scales too far is the question.

Yeah, I'm with Leysy too. Leave him out and use him as a back up option in case Grimes or Balta get injured. Good to see Garthwaite back too. Sheesh, we were so desperate for KPD that we nearly played Phantom Miller there for a fleeting moment

I have my doubts about selecting DTLD so late in the season.
From memory, he's a bit of a slow starter who takes some time to absorb the pace of the game.
Not sure the backline would function any better than it is now if Astbury is slotted back in without the desired preparation.

If fit, straight in for me.
Plays against Adelaide
Plays a scratchie in the bye week.
Plays finals

Think we will know more after seeing how Balta matches up against an inform Hawkins this week.
Much depends on our defence gelling together.
DLTD knows team defence.

If Hawkins gets off the leash, or someone else does because we are zoning off to double team Hawkins......maybe DTLD is the answer

yeah we'll see how notorious goes against hawkins. if he does well we'll be less inclined to bring in dtld

Interesting words from Balme with the defence and attack requirement for the 2020 side.

You look at the current favoured backline of Short, Balta, Grimes, Houli, Baker , Vlaustuin and Markov and they all take off offensively as soon as they get the ball (the least of which would be Flossy).

Broad not so much. Astbury, not really. Might explain Broad's recent omission and based on what Balmey said it will be interesting to see who, if anyone, Astbury will dislodge from the above 7.

Yeah, DTLD will tend to stop and go Down The Line if he can't get a handpass off to one of the quick blokes. Broad runs a bit to link up but not as attacking as Houli and the gang. Vlas makes space, his passes can be attacking but he won't run it out too far. Generally an intercept then slows it down.
