Dan is dead

The longer this drags on, the more likely it is that Dan is being held in a Schumacher-esque state deep in the bowels of Labor headquarters, and they are keeping it secret in the interests of public morale. An alternative is that Dan is too proud to be seen with a walking brace in place of his distinctive gangster shuffle.

Rumour I heard, he slipped into a submarine belonging to another friendly nation to him.
They whisked him away for a well earned break. Spartly Islands Phillipines apparently.
Where also his friends under the disguise of a fishing fleet, were building the foundation a holiday retreat for him there :D

There's the small matter of an election in November, only five months away. Perhaps we'll be treated to Dan waving to the cheering masses from the top of Parliament House steps, Weekend at Bernie's style. He doesn't need to say anything to retain the support of the faithful.
Election is November 2022.

You've got another 12 months at least.

Say what you like about this thread, but at least it has prompted Dan (or his minders) to break radio silence.

Daniel Andrews shares message to Victorians after lockdown extended (paywalled)

Premier Daniel Andrews has posted to Facebook on Wednesday night – for the first time since April – telling Victoria to “keep fighting”.

The Premier revealed in the comments that he will be “back on deck later this month”, after suffering a serious spinal injury on March 9.

“I’m sorry I can’t be there with everyone right now but I’m so grateful to James for his leadership,” Mr Andrews said.

“I have more scans and a meeting with my medical team next week.”

“I’ll let you know how that goes and exactly when I’ll be back on deck later this month. See you soon.”

In his Facebook post, the Premier said he wanted to “send a message to Victorians”.

“Just because we’ve had to do this before, doesn’t mean it’s easy to do again. Some of us will be tired. Some stressed. Some sick to the back teeth of this pandemic. Maybe a mix of all three,” he said.

“But please know that every individual effort you made today, and everything you’ll do tomorrow and every day after will save lives.

“Record tests, record vaccinations, record fight – we’re doing this to protect our communities, our state and the entire country.

“Be proud of what you’ve achieved and be proud of our state too.”

On Tuesday, Health Minister Martin Foley said the Premier was getting daily briefings from his deputy James Merlino on the Covid situation.

“He’ll come back in accordance with his medical treatment.

“There are millions of daily decisions made across government and the Premier is not making those decisions. The Acting Premier is in charge and is in close consultation with the Premier,” he added.

All very generic.

Fox family seeks legal advice to stop rumours over Premier’s fall

The family of trucking magnate Lindsay Fox sought legal advice over whether to sue an obscure Queensland website that posted rumours implicating the wealthy family in the Premier’s fall.

Lindsay Fox, who runs logistics giant Linfox, was originally thought to be at his sprawling cliff-top mansion on the March long weekend when Premier Daniel Andrews slipped at a nearby holiday home, feeding rumours the pair had spent time together that weekend.

A claim that Mr Andrews fell at the Fox house appeared in April on a Queensland blog, which also claimed photos of Mr Andrews in a hospital bed were doctored. The blog post gained traction on social media and was initially pushed by fringe conservative actors online before spreading in political circles.

The claims were pursued by news outlets, including The Age, which sought a response from the office of the Premier, which denied Mr Andrews was at the Fox house when he slipped.

Mr Andrews is a friend of Lindsay Fox’s son, Andrew Fox, who is responsible for Linfox’s airport and property arms.

A source familiar with the Fox family’s legal pursuit, who spoke to The Age on the condition of anonymity, said the online post prompted the trucking family to seek legal advice against the blog site in late April. The source said the family eventually decided against defamation action because it would have been a lot of time and energy and not worth the effort.

Despite the family’s belief that the action would have succeeded, the source told The Age the family opted for a strategy of dignified silence in the face of consistent rumours.

Mr Andrews, who last year fronted the media for 120 consecutive days during Victoria’s coronavirus second wave, hasn’t been seen in public since early March.

The 48-year-old state Labor leader was due to announce a “truth-telling” commission near Healesville on March 9 when he slipped while getting ready for work.

Initially his office briefed reporters that he was taken to hospital for precautionary X-rays after falling.

Behind the scenes, his staff seemed increasingly concerned with his condition and six hours later confirmed the Premier had broken several ribs and suffered vertebrae damage after slipping at a holiday home on the Mornington Peninsula. The true extent of his fall was later realised when he was transferred to the intensive care unit at The Alfred hospital.

Mr Andrews quietly left hospital on March 15. Avoiding a waiting press pack, he instead released a statement announcing he would take six weeks leave after fracturing at least five ribs and sustaining an acute compression fracture of the T7 vertebra.

Colleagues communicated with the Premier via text messages but the minister said Mr Andrews has mostly kept to himself during his recovery and taken little part in budget preparation.

On April 4, the Premier revealed he was walking up to 18 minutes a day, which surprised colleagues who assumed his recovery was progressing quicker.

With his six weeks leave period due to expire on Anzac Day, Mr Andrews provided another statement on April 18 confirming what many of his colleagues already knew; he would not return to the job until at least June. At the time, he tweeted; “You only get one chance to properly recover from serious injuries”.

Some of his cabinet colleagues had privately briefed journalists that his June return would likely be towards the end of June or early July, which would mean he wouldn’t face a gruelling question time until August when Parliament resumes. But last week, acting Premier James Merlino said Mr Andrews was still on track for a June return, saying his medical team was pleased with his recovery.

Before Dan Andrews slipped and suffered serious injury, he was one Australia's most prominent politicians. But he's only been seen TWICE since... and it's fuelling sinister conspiracies about what REALLY happened

Wild conspiracy theories have emerged about how Dan Andrews suffered his serious back injury that saw him temporarily step down as Victorian Premier.

Before the state Labor leader slipped down stairs at his holiday house on the Mornington Peninsula on March 9, breaking several ribs and suffering a badly damaged spine, he was one of the most prominent politicians in not just Victoria, but Australia.

The 48-year-old's profile had grown exponentially after spending 112 days through Victoria's lockdown doing a daily press briefing, which were broadcast live across the nation, amid the longest and harshest restrictions in the world as the state battled a second-wave Covid outbreak that killed more than 800.

But in the two months since handing over the reins to Acting Premier James Merlino, there have been just two social media posts since his fall - and it's that lack of communication with the electorate that's fuelling a number of false conspiracy theories about how he really suffered his injuries.

The first post showed him stepping out of bed during his stay in hospital, while the second showed him at home with his teenage daughter Grace on April 18th.

And that's it. All other media announcements have been on Twitter with text posts or through Mr Merlino.

But filling the void are the conspiracy theories that suggest his fall wasn't an accident, but something more nefarious - with some even claiming the image showing his recovery has been doctored.

'I heard you had your head bashed in by people after what you did to the people of Victoria. That is why you hired Photoshop artists to put your head on somebody else's body,' one person claimed on Andrews' last Instagram photo.

'This is also the reason we have not seen your actual face since the incident. We have not seen your actual hospital photos. And we haven't heard you speak. Because you got your head bashed in.'

Wild conspiracy theories have emerged claiming Dan Andrews' fall down the stairs of his holiday home actually occurred at a party - with claims the Victorian premier was pushed by those in attendance

Wild conspiracy theories have emerged claiming Dan Andrews' fall down the stairs of his holiday home actually occurred at a party - with claims the Victorian premier was pushed by those in attendance.

Conspiracy theorists falsely allege a number of alternative causes to his injuries, one which claims the Belt and Road Deal his government signed with China - which has since been disbanded - angered Victorian businesses and led to someone acting out against him.

Others claim Andrews' handing of the hotel quarantine to a private security company, which ended in a disastrous outbreak and prolonged lockdown in the second half of 2020, saw him become a target.

Other conspiracists even falsely claim Andrews was attacked at the party held by a prominent Australian businessman.

'Start telling the truth as to why you were pushed when... you were at the party,' one person replied to Andrews' Instagram post.

'How's that Belt and Road Deal, Dan? Selling us out to the commies. Who pushed you down those stairs?' another wrote.

There are several comments suggesting the image of Mr Andrews and his daughter is Photoshopped, claiming the black and white filter hides 'inconsistencies' like bruises.

Deputy Premier James Merlino provided an update on Mr Andrews' condition last week saying he was planning to return to work in June.

However, in reality, Andrews' suffered serious injures that require months of painstaking recovery. He suffered at least five broken ribs and an acute compression fracture of the T7 vertebra in his spine.

Since being released from hospital on March 15, he has been recovering at home.

'I landed flat on my back and hit the steps hard directly below the shoulder blades fracturing at least five ribs and sustaining an acute compression fracture of the T7 vertebra,' he said in a statement following the incident.

'I narrowly avoided permanent damage to my spinal cord.

'These are serious injuries that require me to wear a brace throughout each day except when sleeping.

'My doctors also want me to get rest and undertake a comprehensive program of physiotherapy.

'That's why I will take a leave of absence from my duties for at least six weeks.

'It's important that I take this rest and recovery seriously.'

Later he revealed that a trauma specialist told his wife that he should purchase a Lotto ticket he was so lucky to avoid a life-altering injury.

'I'm not sure about the Tattslotto ticket but I'm certain that with rest, continued high quality care and the support of family, friends, colleagues and the Victorian community, I'll be back doing the job I love as soon as possible,' Andrews said.

The Victorian premier's office said the all of the theories were 'completely false'.

'All of these conspiracy theories are completely false and have been previously dealt with. We don't intend to entertain them any further,' a spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia.

Deputy Premier James Merlino provided an update on his condition last week saying he was planning to return to work in June.

'He's up and about, so I'm really pleased with his progress. There's still quite a way to go but he's doing very well,' he told reporters.

'We're on track for a June return, that'll obviously be subject to doctor's advice.'

So The Daily Mail decided to get some conspiracy theories and take them for a drive around the block to show everyone . . . clearly a quality newspaper of record.

Lee has stopped trying to defend Morrison and the rest of the Libs on the politics thread (fair enough- impossible job) so has started this one as a dsitraction.

Using the daily mail as a source is in line with some of his sources in the climate change thread.

Dan Andrews Vows To Get His Revenge On Scotty Once He Gets Out Of His Iron Lung

On-leave Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has spoken today from the iron lung he’s been trapped in for the past few weeks after doing his arse on a flight of Mornington Peninsula stairs.

He said he was going to get his revenge on Scott Morrison for putting the boot into the lung while he was down by ripping up the China Belt and Road Initiative.

“I will get my revenge,” said Dan.

“In this life or the next. That *smile* *smile*, I worked so hard on that deal. *smile*, all the Chinese wanted to do was build some *smile* infrastructure and lettuce [sic] pay it back bit by bit. How is a *smile* highway system a national security risk. It’s just a bit of asphalt and dirt,”

Andrews then waited for the lung to start pumping back out so he could speak again.

“And another thing. Why does he keep taking the *smile* out of Victoria? Leave us alone, mate. We have 80 000 people at the G every week.”

The lung then started blowing back out and Dan fell silent.

Our reporter then elected to leave while he had a chance.
