Re: Cricket

I see Jacques has smashed a ton for the PMs 11 against the Poms to put genuine pressure on our aging Aussie openers and the selectors.
Certainly won't be a surprised if he's picked.

Yep ToO - the PM's team dominating the poms. The PM's 11 made 347 odd and now Tait has ripped through the Poms gathering 3-12 off 6 overs and averaging 150km. Interesting start of the Tour - Poms now 6 fa 127 off 25 overs :hihi :hihi :hihi

I wil be ,he won't be picked but should be.

Re: Cricket

Worrying sign for the Pommies, Shaun Tait had them jumping around on a great batting deck.

Poor shot selection by the some as well.

A long way to go though. Can't wait.

I'd be very surprised if there was not at least one drawn game, but if it does come down to the last test, it will be a great series.

And now the Aussies are getting criticized because a camera hogging politician wouldn't get off the stage. From what I saw on the news, this idiot was just standing in front of the group with the trophy, making no effort to present it to Ponting, posing for pics. In fact, I think Ponting decided enough is enough and wanted the trophy handed over. And he's a politician, what a surprise. Maybe the Indian media should get into a frenzy about their country's involvement in running one of the best umpires in the game out of the game, for simply doing his job (but that would be asking a fair bit I guess).

Agree totally.
I'm no Punting fan but this is a beat-up.
Smacks of jealousy to me and a deliberate and concerted attempt by the Indian press to take some of the gloss off Australia's victory.
Punting should tell them to shove it.

Obviously just another case of those terrible "racist" Aussies!  And of course they go straight to Sunil Gav who never misses a chance to sink the boot in. He's the Indian version of Neil Harvey.  Sunny says that India they respect their elders, not like here. Of course that isn't a rascist statement.
May have also been to deflect attention from the Indians form. Couldn't even make the final of a tournament in their own country with conditions that only they could have expected. They need to get thicker skins and stop being so bloody precious!

The one really good thing about his innings yesterday is that he has finally put an end to Katich's international career. Couple this with his outstanding one day debut last year and the form of Marsh junior, plus Cosgrove waiting in the wings and there is no way that even our ultra-conservative and timid selectors could possibly recall him.

Do you reckon?
They've dumped 2 blokes who made double tons in their last 1 or 2 hits for the green and gold. The dilemna the selectors have is Katich and Jaques are both New South Welshpersons and they can't squeeze them both in.

I reckon both Tait and Johnson may have to both wait a year. Brackens excellent swing and variation on different tracks will get him a gig alongside Lee and McGrath. Plus he too is a New South Welshperson.

Re: Cricket

I have a feeling Bracken's card was marked 'never to play tests again' quite a while ago. A bit of a shame because for a token NSWmen I'd much rather him than that hack S Clark.

Re: Cricket

Went up to watch the PMs game and the Poms were as rusty as the proverbial, and couldnt handle the pitch which was flat but full of bounce.

Mahmood is a dud, as is Anderson.

All Pommy bats struggled with the pace and bounce especially the smoke Tait was hurling down at them.

I still have a gut feel that Mitchell Johnston, will play in the Gabba test as it is his home wicket, and he is left arm raw pace with swing, and these reasons being it being his home wicket and his variation will see him play for mine.

Cant see any reason to have both McGrath and Clark in the team, McGrath is the master and along with Watson who will bat at 6 will be the steady steady bowlers, whilst Lee and Johnston will provide the fireworks and Warne the magic.

Jaques, Birt and Cosgrove will all get test caps in the next 1 to 2 years for mine.

Birt is a gun and would be high on the radar if he wasnt a Taswegian.

Jaques will be opening in 12 months time when Hayden and Langer retire.

My 12 for Brizzy is

1 Langer

2 Hayden

3 Ponting

4 Martyn ( prefer Birt / Cosgrove / or Clarke)

5 Hussey

6 Watson

7 Gilchrist

8 Lee

9 Warne

10 Johnston or Tait

11 McGrath

Yes I think so, Katich is obviously on the outer with the selectors now and just think there are now a good number of players ahead of him with Jacques heading the list. His only international meal ticket left was one day cricket (even though he is a slug in that form of the game) and Jacques form in One Dayers means that I couldn't imagine them going back to Katich (the sheet anchor at the top of the innings should be dead and buried). Although that doesn't mean that he'll get an international cap unfortunately anytime soon though - the way the team is selected seniority is always rewarded before form and capability. The dinosaurs in our international team will be carried out in boxes before they voluntarily relinquish their spots in the side.

Re: Cricket

Off topic for a second.

Anyone looking for a game of cricket on Saturday afternoons around the Doncaster/Templestowe area of Melbourne is invited to PM me this week. Can guarantee you a game at a suitable level.

Re: Cricket

Jaques is certainly putting a good suit forward. I really can't see Langer being dropped for the first game, but if he struggles then Jaques will probably get selected for the next game.

The only thing Langer has going for him is his bond with Hayden imo. If he can demonstrate this still exists and he does okay while Hayden fires, then he will probably be safe.

Re: Cricket

And a good win for the Vics in the Ford Ranger cup game against the Tassies. The Vics batting is always so fragile but Tassies was even more so.

Re: Cricket

The Sunday Age has weighed into the debate for the selection of either Clark,Johnson,Tait or Bracken.
I like Tait, but I reckon Clark was very good in South Africa and probably deserves another crack. Not sold on Johnson just yet either and Bracken is better suited to one day cricket.

FWIW I'd play Jacques ahead of Langer too,the blokes white hot ATM

Re: Cricket

Langer is going to cop an absolute barrage of short pitched balls from the first ball, and I think he will struggle to cope.

While Jacques is hot, you've got to go with him.

What about playing 6 bats as per normal, and Watson as the third quick and bat at 8?

Probably puts Symonds ahead of Clarke for no6, as his ability to get through a few overs if required would be handy.

Re: Cricket

Tough to say. Problem is Watson's technique is suited to higher in the order, while Symonds is more suited to lower order pinch hitting. Watson is clearly a better bowler, but last year Symond's kept it tight while taking a few important wickets. I'd probably end up going with Watson at six and will call the selectors ro let them know ;) Now I probably wouldn't mind seeing:

Langer/Jaques
Hayden
Punter
Brazen
Watson
Cosgrove
Gilly
Warne
Lee
Bracken/Johnson
McGrath
12: M Clarke

Probably will be but only due to inclimate weather, both sides will be pretty attacking.
