Some good discussion on the JL situation and the recent Aust. performance on the Cricket etc podcast with Gideon Haigh and Peter Lalor. Basically they think the reaction to the leaks is a bit overblown but there are issues that go beyond simple player performance, issues with strategy, tactics and selection that all fall within Langer's purview.

I can’t believe how dumb fast bowlers are sometimes. Joe Root cannot play a straight drive, goes out LBW more than any other “top” batsman and loves getting on the back foot yet bowlers persist in bowling too short to him. Look at his wagon wheel and he barely scores in front of the wicket. Dumb dumb dumb fast bowling.

Joe Root out to a fuller ball, bowled again. No real foot movement. After scoring almost all his runs behind square. Fast bowlers in the main bowl consistently too short, but especially to Root.

Been a fascinating series, hope the Indians can knock them over for less than 200.

Day 5, England 2/123 just before lunch, 243 more needed, J Root new to the crease. Very finely balanced

Great test match happening in England. Geez Warne is a great cricket brain. His commentary on non Aust games is fascinating to listen to.

India have seized the initiative in the 3/4 hr after lunch. England 6/149. Bumrah's a star. 50+ overs left. A long time to try & hang on.

Crumbled. Lost 10-110 after openers gave them a chance.
Still happy if they come to Australia this year with Burns & Hameed opening, and Malan at 3.

12 - Pakistan
10 - Sri Lanka
9 - New Zealand

I know COVID has had an impact - but this is so poor. Have we just given up on bothering to play Test cricket?

41 of Steve Smith's 77 Tests have been played against India and England. Its a joke and Cricket Australia needs to be called out on it more often. I fear for the health of Test cricket unless something drastic changes ASAP.

Say what you want about them, but at least England regularly play Test matches. Same cannot be said for us.

I think I also read weve played the least amount of International T20.

Women's sport banned in Afghanistan, CA weighing up whether to take a stand and boycott the men's Test in November.

"I don’t think women will be allowed to play cricket because it is not necessary that women should play cricket. In cricket and other sports, women will not get an Islamic dress code. It is obvious that they will get exposed and will not follow the dress code and Islam does not allow that.”

I feel for the Afghani players. An ICC requirement for full-bodied cricketing nations (i.e. those that have Test status) is for them to have a female cricketing program. This could spell trouble for the Afghan Men's team's Test status in addition to just this tour.

Heh, ICC deferring a decision on Test status until after the World Cup.
Haha saw that. I am not surprised in the slightest.

No Test match in Tasmania since 2016 I think (the infamous Test against South Africa). Seems like they will be waiting a while longer for one with 5 Tests scheduled for next summer (2 v WI and 3 v SA).
