Coronavirus

Problem with this sort of accomodation is that its hard to prevent people from talking or fraternizing. In hotels you have personnel watching the corridors to make sure that people don't leave rooms or talk to each other, around the clock. In this situation you'd have to have to have people outside the cabins 24 hours or alternatively lock people in cabins.
true, but the evidence from the NT is that it hasnt escaped in the time they have people returning. Maybe it wont work with the higher numbers other states have to deal with, maybe they have been lucky.

Otherwise guards with guns with stop them doing the wrong thing- a couple of watch towers with spotlights should work Might make recruitment easier too.

Might get some of those MAGA types interested

Without doubt its a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario for the government. Its remarkable how many of these journos are suddenly trained and qualified epidemiologists.

Interesting point, I saw a statement on one of the social media platforms from Michael O'Brien claiming that if he was in charge there would be no state of emergency. Brett Sutton has just said that the without the state of emergency he wouldn't be able to enforce a quarantine on International arrivals, so the current govt would say no Intl arrivals without the state of emergency. Now I know O'Brien wouldn't do this, so I assume that would mean it would be hotel quarantine based on people choosing to go, but no legal enforcement. Good luck with that one.
Brett Sutton is 100% correct. without the emergency powers the CHO has no ability to make directions and those directions are what allows us to have lockdowns, require people to be quarantined, stop visitors in hospital etc.
O'Brien is either an idiot, extremely badly advised or he is being deliberately provocative for the sake of it . Take your pick which one

Andrews noted yesterday or the day before that he never said they were the best it was the AMA. As for 2 different setups we have reportedly taken plenty of advice from other states and ended up with similar setups, maybe its the same in say NSW and they made the decision it wasn't necessary to full implement the recommendations in non hot hotels. I'm not saying this was the right decision, I asked a few posts up whether there had been any questions asked of Andrews over it given I think it would be a far more valid line of questioning than much of what has been asked.
Agree as being a far more valid questioning. He has a knack of steering conversation away from what r tje key issues. He grins and uses third party referencing towards what he is doing/done. Just like the media use the technique. Voice their opinion with directly stating it. So if challenged.. it wasnt me pops out

Was working earlier... added.8.23pm

Here is the interview. The play on words, but claiming not boasting but stating fact. (I got the boasting part wrong)

There is a massive lack of education about the SOE. Not to mention the lack of knowledge of the potential ramifications to Victoria if the SOE is lifted on Feb 27 due to a parliament stalemate. Some could argue the state govt hasn’t explained it well enough, but the disinformation about it has reached epic proportions thanks to the MSM and QAnon. I haven’t seen not one article in the VIC MSM that compares the SOE in VIC to the SOE in other states. Some context would be nice.

Not so long ago i would have strongly disagreed with this. But as someone who frequents a lot of the pro-Andrews Facey pages, some of the cult-like following is almost reaching Trump proportions.
Thanks... For a minute I was going to say who is Facey, some ALP powerbroker....but then the penny dropped.

There is a massive pro-Dan base out there. But I see it's formation as the public's natural reaction to the News Limited hatchet job on Andrews.

Again, like in the States, News Limited has been able to drive a thick wedge into society and politicise every event.
I don't see everyone being motivated by anti Murdoch sentiment. A lot might just like Dan for his own sake and for what they see as his merits.

As far as I know the NT is the only jurisdiction that has not had Covid escape quarantine. The Howard Springs facility is separate cabins, I believe people can go outside, but am not sure of details.
Facilities like that do appear the obvious answer if hotel quarantine will continue to fail, and should not be too hard to establish.
Saw an article today quoting $150 -200 k per cabin. I definitely made the wrong career choice. And in this wide brown land we build at our own pace. Will be ready for COVID -26.

I see plenty of those that wouldn't really have taken a side previously are now angry at News so they've become Defenders Of Dan

If it's $150K per cabin - that's a pretty builder's good margin. As an example, Broadmeadows MITA was "built" for way less - quite a few years ago though.

The trick for a construction / facility management company would be to "install" it as quickly as possible - maximise the time available to house clients, of course, for a profitable fee. There will be no dawdling once a contract is let (PFAS excluded).

I don't disagree with the idea, probably a "market led proposal". It's just at least 9 months too late. Somebody should have been managing this process - competitively - ages ago. Nobody was, and nobody was managing the somebody.

And without sarcasm, does anybody know if the old Peter Macallum Cancer Hospital, in Fitzroy, refurbished by AECOM as a COVID response, was ever actually used?

My understanding is that the old Peter Macallum was not used, never needed.

But really, a better alternative to hotel quarantine should have been implemented 9 months ago as you say. Back then we all thought a vaccine would be maybe 2 years away so quarantine was going to be needed for a while.

3 local cases have appeared in Vic this morning all traced & in isolation on the face of it this is good.
However one thing that I don’t understand over the course of this pandemic is that we had a 5 day lockdown but many cases don’t reveal themselves for up to 2 weeks or more? It’s such a grey area as to how long cases are infected & when those cases reveal themselves with symptoms.
There could still be people who are infected right now from this latest outbreak wandering all over the place that haven’t shown any symptoms yet.

Couldn't agree more. The stupidity of Dan Andrews to not deck out all quarantine workers with Tier 3 PPE as per the recommendations of the PPE taskforce, which would have prevented an outbreak and subsequent 5 day lockdown costing the state an estimated $500M - $1B is "gold standard" stupidity.

Yeah, the unidentified cases, and their ability to pass on the virus, is the reason why the lockdown happened. The lockdown is supposed to stop transmission from those we can't find. A blunt tool but it does work pretty well, just has many side effects.

This is not simple or easy.

I understood a fair bit of the rationale was it gives the contract tracers a chance to get a hold of it. Slows the expansion of the circle of contacts and lets them get back ahead of the spread.
I understand, and agree with the 5 day lockdown once this highly transmissible variant of the virus got out into the community. My point is it should not have got out in the first place had Dan Andrews not ignored the PPE taskforce's recommendation that all HQ workers be issued with Tier 3 PPE.

An extra say $50k of Tier 3 PPE would have prevented the outbreak, and saved the state an estimated $500M to $1B

Which ever way you slice it, it's sheer incompetence by the Andrews government.
