Pretty foolish by her as went completely against her own government's advice.

That really is *smile* behaviour by Gladys. As if she couldn't have worked from home for a day whilst awaiting the test result. I had to do that a couple of weeks ago. My 15 year old felt crook waking up on a Friday morning so we took him for a test. All 4 of us who live in the house isolated until we got the negative result at 8am on Saturday morning. He had to miss his cricket game and the team played short but stiff *smile* that's what we have to do. It's not that hard and it's extremely disappointing for a State Premier not to lead by example.

Yeah it's a tremendous effort at this stage. It seems as though the virus will remain in circulation though, and if you forget to keep your shots up or you're in the unlucky "10 percent or more", you're in strife.

I guess this is what they meant when they predicted early that it was likely to enter general circulation like other viruses. Can also see for the first time the concerns of anti-vaxxers - an innoculation that is virtually mandatory but no sure thing.

Might need tattoos on our foreheads to certify that we've had the jab and are "safe".

No vaccine is a sure thing though. Doesn't stop millions of Aussies and billions around the world getting vaccines for flu which have much lower success rates than these 3 Covid vaccines. I think the flu vaccines are around 30-40% successful.

Everyone that goes in for day surgery needs to do the same. I'm going in for a biopsy and need to have a Covid test before it and then isolate until the time I need to go to the hospital for the biopsy.

I have read that viruses like this tend to become less virulent over time, Sin or one of medical folk might want to confirm. Possibly this vaccine could become part of our regular vaccination programs like flu, and for at risk populations.

I've posted on this earlier in the thread (much earlier).

But yes. If you look at R0 value and lethality, Covid is a little unusual for a coronavirus to be high in both categories. The high mortality is part of the reason SARS and MERS had limited spread.

Selective pressures should balance out lethality for a higher effective reproduction rate. No guarantees, but it makes sense. There is no real evidence that is happened yet (it's really hard to separate the causes for the observed decrease in mortality), but there is some anecdotal suggestion this is being observed.

The basic logic being that respiratory viruses get very little benefit from killing the organisms that are allowing them to reproduce, but a lot of benefit from making them cough and sneeze. It's a fine balance for them to strike.

The balance also gets tipped more toward a minor infection if symptomatic cases are isolated. But stupids in the US have meant that's much less of a factor.

Vaccines bring a new selective pressure could throw a spanner in the works and could even potentially reverse that trend though (don't tell the antivaxxers). Evolution is never linear.

It's now come out that she voted in parliament when she should have been self isolating & put 90 MPs at risk...

I think our gladys could be the first woman to lead federal Liberal.

She has done covid like a real leader should and was forgiven for reverse cowgirling Capt. Dodgy, a rezoning map of NSW spread across her back, virtually overnight.

If Peta Credlin runs a concerted hate campaign against her soon, we'll know for sure shes a lovely person and a leader with real ticker.

Possibly, but it does have a very bad look and can't help in trying to get people to follow reasonable rules like isolating when waiting for a test result.

Last active case of covid has been discharged. We now have zero active coronavirus cases in Victoria!

The scary thing about this virus is that there are still a few patients in hospital from COVID in Melbourne. They are no longer testing positive but they are still not recovered from the complications of getting it.

I heard an epidemiologist say that technically the virus is officially eliminated after 28 days of no new cases. Tomorrow is day 28.

Tomorrow we hopefully reach the’28 day milestone’.

My concern is once they allow international travellers into Australia & Victoria if hotel quarantine isn’t on top of the processes that cause the second wave, then we haven’t learnt a thing.

Without a vaccine it leaves us vulnerable.
What is the hurry?
Bring back home for Christmas Australian citizens ( some 30k ) not international travellers.
They can wait.
