Coronavirus

We might get to Europe before Adelaide. Or Perth.
Depends where you are posting from. Its a way off either way i think. Qantas actions are pretty much saying international travel is not happening until 2022 23. At least not near the levels pre covid.
Victoria has cocked it up the worst so far, but it could easily be perth tomorrow or Adelaide.
This is why the behaviours are so important.
If you let your gaurd down you are more susceptible to exposure.
Doesnt matter who you voted for hey.

Did he actually say what you quoted him for?
Bejezus! There are some zealot vics in the world.
ScoMo has said for months there is no reason for any state to close their borders. We are a Commonweatlth ...but that concept has been abandoned by most states and Territorians so I am more than happy to have a crack at the pompousness of NSW and Wa though now that Qld has let the Tigers in I forgive Anna for her sins. I just talk my own book ! SA is a special case... A basket case that will be on the drip of Canberra for years to come

For all the talk and hystronics that only Vic is using security guards, there is a gent standing outside my door in Sydney.
Extra chatty, mask hanging from one ear. No uniform but a smart suit - just the right blend of cheap and too large.
I havent questioned his employer but pound to peanuts NSW are using security firms at hotels to keep folks in rooms.

(Riddles obviously this post is not a stab, i just wanted to reference this particular conversation.
NSW are now introducing a daily limit of incoming folk after copping the vic overflow)
Got a lot of planes circling over Mascot?, Divert them to Adelaide, they have all the answers.

you and me both brother.

still reckon Dan is doing a better job than Trump.

You are welcome to your opinion though.
I dont disagree about the extents of the failings. The US is gone. I hope Vic isn't. It should turn soon but only if people do the right thing. Look after themselves, their families and their communities.
I think its more about the behaviour of the individual within society.
You choose to wash hands, wear a mask, social distance, limit exposure etc. Not the government. They make recommendations and the good ones give guidance and support.

What I think is that in every western democracy the people themselves have decided tje extent of spread and hence number of deaths they will accept. In Aust we want virtually no deaths and will act accirdingly, in the Us they have a higher number, despite the exhortations or not of Pres and state Governors. The East Asian countries have another set of values that have helped them keep spread deaths low. Hard to See all 219 nations all beimg in lock step.

ultimately we all have personal responsibilty, but it must be supported by good policy and even enforcement at times.

I think we finally agree on something.

The EU is drawing up a list of countries that will be the first to be let into Europe and the Schengen zone whatever that is. Aust is on it and NZ and Thailand Algeria and a dozen others.
To the Europeans a place with 5 million people and 66 new cases a day is good to go.... They are happy they are down to a few hundred cases a day in each country. You may not think that's safe but it's horses for courses.
Yes it will take a long time to get back to pre COVId levels but we start with baby steps.
Biggest issue is not which countries will let us in but what states will lets us back in when we want come home.

Let's say April May 2021 is when there should be a vaccine available to start mass production.

Depending on where and who you are, it might take a year or two before it's your turn to get it.

We could be social distancing for quite a while. If countries open then shut when a new wave comes, it won't be long before they just lock the borders and that's it until people are vaccinated.

What do we do when we finish Netflix?

Come on... Westminster system . Ministers take the heat...sack the public servant if you want but Mr Premier and Ms Minister you fall on your sword.

Nah, Howard ended ministerial responsibility.

Neither major party seems to bother any more.

One for A-Man

Thanks JB, sounds pretty tenous.

"We follow the data closely. There's no evidence yet that the protests led to much spread though it's something that Dr Ferrer has hypothesized, but we haven't seen any conclusive evidence there,' he said. "

if there is any actual data, would be good to see it.

So it was just luck? No incompetent management at all? Not buying that for a second.

NSW would have had more people in hotel quarantine than Victoria but they haven’t had an issue. Although the did have Ruby Princess.
You'll note the post stated "One of Victoria's problems". There's no doubt there's been a very healthy dose of incompetence.

We will be in complete lock down again in no time.

We should be in complete lockdown now!

This is getting stupid to the point of *smile* insanity.

Locking down a postcode after cases explode there is just chasing your tail. We are being moronic and reactive.

Reactive is the absolute worst thing you can be during a pandemic. Regardless of your testing procedures, there is always going to be a delay between transmission and identification. You need to look at trends and get ahead of the testing, and that's just to maintain pace.

I've said this before, but locking down by postcode is arbitrary, there is no epidemiological reasoning behind that particular geographical area. Locking down by postcode after transmission rates get high is just idiotic.

Lock the *smile* state down now. Right now. Do it properly for a month. Otherwise we're going to be trying to stuff cats back into bags all over the place for the next year.

Testing should be mandatory, at least in the trouble spots, and asap everyone everywhere.

I spent 12 hours at a mate's place in Fawkner last weekend. I rang the hotline to ask if I should get tested and they told me without symptoms I'd need a doctor's referral.
