Hi all. Hopefully most members have received an email about Coach's Call by now,
but for the rest of you here's some info. Jade will be sending out an SMS on his
thoughts pre-game Saturday, then at quarter, half, three-quarter time and at
the end (kinda like Twitter I guess), letting supporters in on the thinking of the
coach and what goes on in the box.

My girlfriend came up with the concept and, being a lifelong Tigers supporter,
has been working with Richmond to ensure they have first crack at it. Hopefully it
will roll out across the AFL (and beyond) after this but the Tiges will have the jump
on everyone else :-D

We did a smaller trial during the Sydney match which was a lot of fun, but the
main tests will be the next two weeks against Collingwood and Hawthorn
(a couple of big matches to start off with indeed). So please join up
(it's absolutely free and your details won't be used against you) by
SMSing TIGERS to 0448 117 117. It'll be up on the scoreboard during
the day anyway to remind you, so hopefully even the Collingwood supporters
will join in. You can get more details at www.coachscall.com.au by the way.

Go Tiges,
nikdante

Good idea. No offence, though, but I'd reckon I'd rather Jade spend his time at the qtr breaks playing with the magnets and sticking rockets up lazy players than texting me to tell me that McMuffin in a soft, lazy, unskillful hack :p

Was thinking the same thing but assumed that someone else will be doing the texts after he gives a brief commentary.

But really it will be a very sanitised version. We would hardly be getting comments that are negative towards a player even if they deserve it. Can almost see it being the same as a after game press conference we played bad they played well sort of thing.

That's a shame, I'd sign up for sure otherwise

Re: Coach's Call - Ingame SMSes from Jade

Yeah, for the AFL it sounds like it is just one more cliche' mechanism. I like the idea of the miked booth - now THAT would be entertaining.
Does anyone from within the club have a twitter or facebook account, just out of interest?

Re: Coach's Call - Ingame SMSes from Jade

It's prone to ridicule.

It might work but would rather another club was trialling it.

Re: Coach's Call - Ingame SMSes from Jade

I signed up just to see if they would send the SMS messages overseas. The confirmation I got back says they will. Lets see what reality is like.

richmondfc has a twitter account. Only a few hours behind the mainstream media but it's a start.

Re: Coach's Call - Ingame SMSes from Jade

good idea

would be surprised if it lasted though. IMO the gimmick will wear off for the fans relatively quickly & it is an unnecassary distraction to the coach.

it also potentially makes the coaches position a bit more vulnerable than it already is.

Re: Coach's Call - Ingame SMSes from Jade

I'm not really expecting the SMS to have too much nitty gritty stuff but I signed up as soon as I received the e-mail. I'm looking forward to getting mine and I'm sure those at work or out of contact will appreciate updates on how we're traveling.

Thanks niks g/f. Good to be leading the way trialing new initiatives at Tigerland.

Couldn't agree more. Totaly unprofessional IMO. I'm sorry, but I would like the coach to coach and the marketing department to market. I can't imagine a Malthouse or Matthews or a Ross Lyon stuffing around texting the natives. They'll be addressing their players.

Re: Coach's Call - Ingame SMSes from Jade

Interesting and deserves support for being something different.

As others have said will be a very sanitised version as I am sure Micky M will be logged in this week for his updates from the rival coach.

However well done and I will be signed up.

Coaches sometimes give quick interviews in the breaks. I don't imagine Jade will be sitting there typing out the messages himself while ignoring his duties. I expect someone else will send the quick comment and those responsible for the magnets and players will be doing their jobs. I guess only time will tell how it all works out.

Why knock something before it has had its day in the sun?

You're a conservative lot you Victorians - don't like change that much - fear innovation - it all just gets too scary..........

Go Tigers hope it works and becomes a regular fixture as part of the game.

As an interstater I will enjoy the communication..............
