Clubs delistings

Just checked Campbell's stats vs Soldo.

A couple of extra possessions on average across his career, 1 extra mark and 5 less hitouts. Fewer tackles too. Also 4 years older.

I'm no Soldo fan club but would rather keep him TBH

You picked out the negatives. Positive is he gets double contested possessions, averages more goals, behinds, inside 50s, goal assists, contested marks. Saying that I agree, I don't think Soldo will make it and Campbell hasn't made it in a side that has struggled with finding a capable ruckman over time.

The Dogs don’t exactly have the strongest ruck division in the competition yet they have pushed Roughead and Campbell out the door anyway.

Either they expect Tim English to turn into Brodie Grundy next season or they don’t think Campbell is any good and will be topping up. So why would we want him?

We are risking losing Chol by delisting and then putting him back on the rookie list if no one steals him first. It would be a risk, then, to lose Soldo too. There must be some interesting scenarios in place. I look forward to seeing who else is in the frame.

Is October 31 the delisting deadline date? If so that leaves 5 days to determine the future for Chol, Soldo, Townsend, Drummond.

i've got a funny feeling that beveridge doesn't like rucks for some reason..

Yes it just hints at the club is behaving like a duck - calm and relaxed on the surface, paddling like buggery below - with some kind of plan to grab another ruckman. I've already posted on his thread that if it's true about delisting Chol, I really disagree. However, obviously the club knows it must find another serious back-up ruck for Nank, and also believes Chol has not shown he can deliver that yet. Surely Soldo will be retained!?

Just don't think Campbell is the answer. Has been tried and tested at the Dogs and found wanting. Short-term stop-gap maybe?

Probably correct, but they must have high hopes for English taking another step up, so will get games into him. What I saw of him in 2018, he looked very promising.

Don't forget that he also grabbed Trengove from PP and he is a surprisingly effective, negater-type ruck much like Nank, contests HOs but follows up hard at ground level. Not easily over-powered, rugged battler who will tackle and throw his weight around.

I'm happy to trust that the footy department have a handle on the ruck situation.

As for Chol, when do you get good? Potential means nothing unless it's realised and he has been given more than enough time. He was an academy player at Brisbane who was dumped and given a lifeline when Leppa returned.

So he had two, maybe three, years at Brisbane and now three years with us and so far Ive seen him play about 15 minutes of good footy, and that was against the Bombers in Wangarratta this year.

I suspect that the club has put their focus on Balta to fast track into the seniors. He's a big athletic lump that reminds me of both Richo and Rance in their early years.

Yer, Cholly copped his injury at a bad time for his future. The club would be thinking that Balta virtually went past him in his very first year realistically. But Chol is about 5cm taller and also very athletic. Hope we get to keep him for one last chance in '19.

It is not unusual for project players to be delisted and rookied afterwards. Clubs generally leave each other’s project players alone. They enquire if they are interested and steer clear if told that they will be rookied.

Sometimes clubs will delist a player and agree to rookie him if no-one else takes him first. That is different.

I would say that Townsend is making big decisions at the moment and the futures of Chol, Soldo and Drummond hang off this. If Towner can get a better deal somewhere, he will delisted and will join that club as a DFA. Two of the other 3 will then be rookied. If Towner stays, he will end up on the rookie list and only one of the others will survive.

Personally I cant see any other AFL club going for Chol.

No to all of them. Sheridan dropped a chest mark that cost the dockers a game, no good
Menzel just refuses to tackle
honeychurch, can't game in front of 100 kids at the doggies, Noway

Let's get in 5 kids, even 2 mature kids from the VFL.
There isn't one player that has been delisted that I reckon is worth another chance.
Agree 100% with what is on offer we can find better in the Draft.

I don't really have any particular players that we should target but when you are in the premiership window is helps to have some depth of players who can step and play a role when injuries hit.

None of these guys are going to be champions but there is nothing wrong with getting in someone who has shown they can play at the afl level at times and can add that depth, as long as we don't have too many of them

I wouldn't be surprised if we sign a delisted free agent utility type or maybe a state league player in that category rather than filling all the gaps in our list with 18 year olds

Chol was never on Brisbane's list he was in their academy but they thought they already had enough young talls. Richmond drafted him as an 18 year old.

I personally think he has shown more than enough to be kept on. Had he not broken his foot I'm sure he would have featured in the AFL this year

Do the players without contracts need to be delisted or resigned by today's deadline?
