You could hardly say Richmond fans are impatient by nature.  After many years in the wilderness suffering poor season after poor season attendances at games and membership numbers are still high.

I can’t help but feel we are growing really restless now we can sniff the air of imminent change though.

For too long we’ve paid our players too much for too little.  The people responsible for the lengthy and expensive contracts have now left the club but they have probably left a legacy behind them too.

How can a player who finishes high in our best and fairest feel when he’s on a far lower salary than players who don’t put in as much for the club?  I don’t have a clue about the facts, but surely it would have to cause some unrest in the ranks.

We need to have players who want to play for the jumper rather than for the $$$$.  There are far more successful clubs than us who use far less of the salary cap.

We have Greg Miller and Ian Campbell in charge now and have to have faith that they will lead us in the right direction.  It’s hard to have unconditional faith when we’ve been burned so many times before but we need to give the new staff at the club a chance to turn things around.  It takes time.

Our sponsorships are very good considering we haven’t really performed at an acceptable standard for a prolonged period.  Our playing list is gradually being turned over.  Hopefully players holding the club to ransom come contract time is a thing of the past.  Surely we’ve learnt a lesson that giving into them hasn’t worked in the past and has in fact caused a lot of damage.

It’s no use calling for Danny to be sacked on every thread on here.  There would be no doubt in the world that the club would be at least considering other options for next year.  The RFC really need to get this right for once no matter whom they have in mind.

I love Richmond despite all it’s failings and really believe we’ll be in a far better position to judge things after this season.

We have a whole culture to change so be patient for a few more months. There’s no point calling for sackings after every loss.

The end of this season is like a light at the end of a tunnel.  The powers to be will have more freedom to shape our future whichever direction it needs to take and I suspect a big broom to sweep through many areas at Tigerland.

I’m genuinely excited about our future and a new culture of success.

Go Tiges.

Please dont take this as an affront rosy, but can i suggest that

you are sounding like Kofi Annan calling for peace and calm in the middle east as missiles buzz over his head...LOL..

To change the culture the club needs to get rid of, not only the loser coaching staff, but also the core senior players who are habitual losers. Players like Campbell, Kellway, Chaffey, Gaspar, Hall, Bowden, etc are the cancer that are spreading the loser mentality to the younger players.

But on a more serious note, and this is my deepest fear.

We have brought ourselves to that point where we are on the edge of the cliff and about to fall.

I ask you this rosy, doesnt it scare you to think that lets say, as an example, Sheeds returns, the marching band is playing and there is dancing up and down Punt Road, hailing the return of the tiger hero, that is going to lead us back to the promised land.

What happens if he gets it wrong?..like we are at that point where i would think that the next roll of the dice is the most critical time in the history of the club, and that includes save our skins.

IT scares me to think about what the climate would be in that situation. Any thoughts?

Harry,I can't go with you on this.THe "loser mentality" is the responsibilty of the coach.
Some of the above players could be "reborn" under a thoughtful and uncompromising coach of the Sheedy Wallace ilk.Campbell and *smile* are in the twighlights of their careers but I think the RFC could still get alot out of Chaffey and Bowden.Bowden is pretty much damage goods in rival clubs eyes anyway since Miller slagged him off in public, very poor move on his part IMO.

Hall who knows.

I remember in December of 99 at the AGM a certain new coach telling us about how he was going to instill a 'Culture of Excellance' at the club. How he was going to demand success and work hard at getting that. How he was going to change the mentality that plauged our club for 20 years....

If this pathetic excuse for a club wants to get its act together it must get tough on the coaches AND the senior players. It will be sending the wrong message if the coaches and the fringe players only cop it.

Everyone has been saying and agree totally. At the end of this season we must clean out our list, again. Clean out the coach staff. Instead of recruiting has-beens from other clubs, Richmond should place faith in youth. Recruit coaches who know what success is. I’m waiting very patently for the end of the season to see what changes Mr Miller is going to make. Let’s hope it’s the correct changes.

It's too late for that now Harry. As you said yourself on numerous posts,we've just gotta bide our time the next couple of months till the new coach is clinched and Danny is asked to leave in an orderly fashion.

I just don't want to see panic ensue over the next month as we most likely lose at least 3 of our next 4 games and the baby thrown out with the bath water. We have a few young midfielders devolping in Krakour,Roach and Hartigan and I think they could learn alot from a guy like Campbell.

This"pathetic excuse for a club" will get its act together under the right coach.

Hopefully ;D

Golly gosh. He sounds like the answers to our prayers.

I was referring to end of the season. The priority pick is too precious to risk.

To quote those famous words uttered by Yabby Jeans to the players in a quarter time huddle at a practice match that gave all that were there that sinking feeling.

"I promised these supporters i will make you competive and by god i will do just that."

Which sent us back to the stands muttering....is that all you are going to do for us make us competitive..we are looking for success and you are talking about just being competitive?

All these so called caoaches that have come and gone have had the same thing to say at the AGM...i will do this and the end of the rainbow is a hand pass away and positive, positive positive.

The day the right man for the job is appointed all the supporters will know because he will back his ablity and come out at the AGM and tell it as it is.

We are down and we bloody well have to get back up, it is going to take time, because things dont happen overnight.
So to all tiger supporters have enough faith in my ablity, to understand that we might not climb up as fast as all of you woould like, but to the patient comes the spoils.

When i hear that from a coach at the AGM then I will be at least satisfied that the guy is on the level and not just blowing his trumpet.

I remembering leaving thinking the same thing. But looking back over the past 5 years and its obvious that talking is his strong point.......results well yeah they speak for themselves.

We need an experienced coach who has tasted success. Who was the last coach Richmond had who knew how to build a finals team?

The culture we need at the club is where we train and play to WIN!
Put an end to our losers meantality. Where we accept a win followed by losses.

1 post I agree with you btoz

I think the players need to play the song over and over to them specially the part that says "If were behind then never mind we'll fight and fight and win"
