Changes V GC

Feel a little sorry for Markov. One game and out previously (which I was expecting due to Vlastuin coming back in).

Seems a similar scenario, assume he is in for Egg and we know Bash will be back for the Bombers game, so looks like one game in and then out again.

looks like he’s DJ’ing off his chops.

“Let’s get wasted in here!!”

But next to no ability to get the footy. That’s been his problem this year. His last game got 6 touches.
Yeah Harry must be watching a different Graham. Can't get the pill and seems to be almost going for everything one handed. And very slow so doesn't help in a quick transition.

Here's my take on current selection policy. At this point of the season, we are trying to create a match-hardened, finals-ready squad of 26-28 players. And we are having to do all this with question marks over the future availability of Prestia, Astbury etc, plus the absence of VFL matches to really test and condition players.

In this abnormal environment, we have to rotate some guys through the seniors to see where they're at, and determine whether their name can be added to the finals-ready squad. I think Markov is one such player: he came in, he performed, he scored a tick next to his name. Then he's out and now back in.

We got games into Egg – he's there if needed. Same with Higgins. Graham, Caddy, Rioli, Ross – in and out.

In theory, the next two matches allow us to experiment a little and refine the roles of guys like Pickett and Stack (maybe Castagna, too).

I'm looking to the West Coast game to see our best available 22 on the park, and very interested to see how we try to negate their strengths and play to ours.

If we go into a finals with an interchange bench that includes the likes of Chol, Markov, Stack, Caddy, that's a lot of flexibility.

Not necessarily they can use Baker or Stackie back and Markov can go forward if they want some pace in the forward half.

Baker can also go forward with Stackie back.

Injuries and form always (usually) determine selection. If he has a blinder they won't drop him. A few others are on notice to play a lot better.

Agree with that. He was decent in his one match, but not exceptional. Eggs's had some exceptional games hence got a few more. I'm hoping we can perhaps give the Suns a bit of an early touch up and then Dimma can swing Markov down forward to see how that looks. We are still missing that one piece down forward that can get us abck to being elite and would be interesting to see how he would fit into that fwd structure

I guess the flip side , he could play so well , they can’t drop him , like Towner did in 17 , that part is in his hands .

Not sure I've ever seen Dimma more angry in the box.

View attachment 10242

He showed frustration earlier at an umpires decision as well , when he did a Chris Scott impersonation with the arms , bit unusual for him , usually it’s just a Subtle shake of the head or rolling of the eyes .

Is it a mere coincidence Fridge gets a recall the same week the Crows come sniffing?

yep, i dont think the club would make any gametime decision on a player based on what the Crows are doing. Graham seemed a logical in after the Port game.

correct. I remember Graham being dropped for the rd 12 - 2018 Port game and we got smashed in the clearances and Dimma admitted after the game it was the wrong decision to drop Graham.

IMO a big factor for our 2020 flag chances is denying the opposition easy and effective clearances out of the centre and around the ground, and Graham is a key component for this. Don't worry about his disposal numbers - these are not key indicators to our success.

This is looking like another age old PRE joke. Let's hope we give Gold Coast a hyding.

True, but 6 touches is taking the *smile*. Even Steven Sziller used to muster more than that
