Changes v Bombers

No Astbury, no Broad and a shakey Grimes... I don’t like it...

Essendon team much stronger this week but perhaps with their small forward line they didn't see a match up for Broad. Grimes on StrInger and Balta to hold Stewart stat-less
i could keep Stewart stat-less.

I reckon Broad's been rested. A backman had to make way for Houli and Broad had a lot more points than Markov. Not too disappointed to see Markov get another run because he's likely playing for his career right now.

Think some are overplaying the shaky Grimes a bit. He's not at his best but take away the Port game, other last 7 games the opposition has averaged just 45 points a game. Defence has overall been very solid.

Come on! What do you know?

Before their last match BT said he was an absolutely vital player for the Bummers now. [4 games in 2020; below average on all stats on his profile].

As much as I love Boobs, I reckon it’s a match up thing, and he’s probably the one with the least need, especially when factoring in the conditions.

Wish they’d written managed instead of omitted though - he’s earned that.

Our selections seem to be very set position orientated. We like to maintain our structure for every game, and we have earmarked our players within each position.

We go into games with -

7 backs
6 mids
2 rucks
5 fwds
2 mid/fwds (dusty & lambert)

With selection we usually replace a player with another from the same position.

As houli was coming in, one of the 7 backs from last week was dropped and Broad was probably the worst of the 7. Also the bombers are quite short in the fwd half.

I would have preferred baker or markov move up field to replace george or stack

but dimma rarely shuffles his players around unless he has to and prefers they stay in their position.

If he does move players he usually gives them a few weeks in the vfl to get used to their new position

I was gobsmacked when I saw Broad omitted.

I figure they must be resting him and looking at the match-ups as there are others who should be dropped before Broad and Markov can play forward.

Bit strange really.

Maybe has a niggle they don't want anyone to know about.

Interesting isn't it...omitted can mean a lot of things...
1. slight niggle as DS suggested (management) or
2. straight out poor form (low disposals last 3 weeks makes that plausible) or
3. lack of a suitable match up on a similar player eg. lack of pace to match the quick Bombers fwds esp. Mosquito coming in (although I don't consider Broad very slow) or
4. a discipline issue they don't want to disclose

My tip is 3 since Stack and/or Short can help cover the smaller Bomber fwds.

no-one is untouchable.

Except maybe George

Excuse me.
George is the reason we are so good.
Unpredictably and team work.
George might not be Chris judd, but he runs and that cause's turmoil.
He might not be having his best season, but when things turn god help the opppstion.
Just watch the GF again.
If we start losing players like George we might else go back to 1983.

Essendon have there best 22 tonight.
Don't worry about Danihiar, he hasn't played since 1909.
Hooker is finished and Heppell he is as bad as Danihiar.

Merritt, Shield and Baker in the middle will cause us some problems.
But if we get on top, they will fold and crumble like a deck of cards.

Saw what the Blues did to GC last night and wonder how we struggled to defeat them.

What does that say for tonight's game? We will have to play better than the last game against GC, that's for sure.

Suns set up much better against us than last night. I also reckon they set themselves for us and, after a month or so of close results and a draw, I think we have ruined their psyche. Expect a massive drop off from them for the remainder of the season

Hey Bris,

Off topic, but how does the virus cluster and subsequent restrictions announced by the QLD Govt today affect crowds at the footy up there?
