Callum Coleman-Judas - extricate yourself to Nth Ballarat, you git

A lot of the talk here is about whether CCJ stays or goes.

I would prefer he stays.

But, this is not a simple stay/go equation. CCJ has clear potential, as a tall forward/ruck he fits a need which is not easy to fill, we have put 4 years of development into him. All that says stay. But it comes down to how much we can offer him in terms of salary cap and game time as opposed to what some other club can offer. We are restricted in salary cap, that is inevitable when you are coming off a few flags and we have issues fitting him into the team because we have good players already in our team (hence the flags). For CCJ it also comes down to how much he can earn as a player and secure his long term future and also how much he wants to be a regular selection in the seniors. Again, for CCJ this will be a balancing act as there is a risk/reward of staying at Richmond, likely on less money, which may pay off later; as opposed to guaranteed salary and game time now.

We have to balance how much we can afford and how much we can offer in terms of senior selection. We can't pay overs or guarantee regular seniors games in 2021 but we are likely to be able to pay more and he will play more as some retire, likely 2023 on. This informs what we can offer and then it really is up to CCJ.

We might like him to stay, we have apparently already offered a deal, but our deal will be restricted by factors which won't apply to every other club so we can't simply match another offer.

All we can really do at the moment is to make the pitch within the inevitable restrictions and see what happens.

Some are also making out like CCJ is Max Gawn.

Will he leave a hole from a list perspective - absolutely yes. And I think we all want him to stay.

But the key here is game time. I just cant see how we guarantee him this when his behind the likes of Nank and Soldo in the ruck & Jack and Lynch up forward.

some folks just don't get it Aces.

we have a very smart list management division. they have two options with CCJ:

1) match market value, paying overs now and disrupting our standardised, fair approach to all youngsters across the board. the contract system that enables players to know exactly where they stand.

2) offer what we can offer and come what may. two years for a player to prove that he deserves a genuine step-up. if CCJ leaves, it opens even more cap space for a free agent when Jack retires (probably in 2022).

a free agent that actually addresses like for like, not a bullocking pack-buster that we ALREADY HAVE in Lynch.

Dont want him to leave - however, if he chooses to go after partly costing the club 100,000 for his crap last year and then getting 10 matches where he would have been paid then I dont think his character stands up so not going to cry over it...

Nank, Soldo, Jack and Tom will not play 88 H&A games between them next year. I reckon we are lucky to get 70-75 out of them. This is where CCJ is important. He can play 15-20 games next year...(provided he doesn't get injured). So I'd be pretty disappointed if/when he leaves. But can't begrudge him taking potentially double the money and double the duration at North.

I also think Talia (or Tarrant) has nothing to do with CCJ. The club wanted Astbury to go one more year and obviously play alongside Balta in the backline. So basically Talia becomes Astbury for a year or two. I think its quite a good pick up if true.

Round 1 next year: Balta goes to Curnow and someone on MacKay. I'd prefer Talia or Tarrant then Miller at this stage.

IMO I see this (almost) as the next Brad Ottens to walk out of Richmond and be a good player elsewhere. Brad had played 129 games for Richmond (plus 116 for the cats) and CCJ has a long way to go but I see the similarities. Most these 200cm kids dont come into their own till they are 22-24 years old, some longer.

Some salty posting on here and discrediting CCJ. IMO CCJleaving is a disaster -
That's PRE, if someone is leaving they're a dud and good riddance.

If they're staying they're great, they'll be a star.

We dont want to lose CCJ.
If we do lose him we don't want him to walk away in the PSD.
North won't give us pick 1.

If he doesn't stay, we're going to feel hard done by.

We don't know if he's going to be a star at this stage, but he appears to be competent at AFL level. Competent 200cm players don't fall into your lap, you've got to recruit and develop well.

Surely we can find a few more bucks per year, or another year of contract to incentivize him to stay, without selling the farm. Getting pick 20 for him would be frustrating, but might be the best outcome if he insists on going. Losing him to the PSD would be a disaster.

If North are offering what is being touted, 5 years at $400-$450k a year, he'd be mad not to take it. Thus I think he's gone. A pity as he looks like he will make it, but it's a huge risk that North are gambling on.

I think North will offer pick 20. No team wants if possible bad blood by totally ripping off another.
