Bye Bye Jack Higgins!

Not for the first time, Jack comes across as a bit precious.
Not sure the rewritten headline had anything to do with him personally but you may have heard different info?
I rated his talent, but at the same time, not sure he'd be in our best 22 atm. Move worked well for both parties.
On the basis of list needs, I reckon we stuffed up the pick at the time and, like you, wasn't unhappy he sought a fresh start ... but, I watched that game on Saturday and he played a blinder. Not sure if the fit is right at St Kilda either but the kid can certainly play.

On point one, I heard from someone who is a mutual acquaintance that he complained to St Kilda, or he complained to his dad who then complained to the club. I've also heard from people at the club connected to current day players that no one was unhappy that he sought a second club. Just didn't really gel with the group.

On point two, he did play really well, but I'm not sure he does what we ask of our small forwards. And we have a lot of those mid/forward players (Martin, Bolton, Lambert, Caddy).

Yeah, I gotta say I hope the kid does well now. He's had a tough couple of years - we can judge him harshly for leaving, but everyone has their own life and makes their own choices.

At the start of the year his set shot kicking looked to have improved. Wheels fell off last weekend. Looked so rushed it's hardly a surprise he missed so many shots.
If you keep arcing out right, the ball is kicked in the same direction usually. What a surprise!

Yeah, it looked like he had no routine at all. The poor bugger did so well to get the Saints back into the game but just couldn't seal the deal.

It was interesting; he was on the end of a lot of fast transitions and took a heap of marks. Later that evening, I thought Castagna played a similarly important game, taking lots of marks despite being undersized. Having these sorts of guys sneak a few contested grabs makes a side less predictable.

What a bunch of snowflakes. No wonder it is such a loser club.
I'm no fan of Jack Higgins. I didn't like the way he shot through after Richmond had supported him through his medical challenges.

That said, I think the headline crosses a line. The bloke looked pretty shattered at missing the last shot. He would be his own biggest critic without some smart a@se so called journo or editor writing that. The numpty that thought up that line probably wouldn't get a game for Manangatang seconds.

None of us knows anything about what he might be going through at this time. Any wonder we see more players citing mental health issues.

I grew up with the sticks & stones mentality and fully get that but the media has to be careful with this stuff.

The original headline was something like "Higgins costs StKilda match with disgraceful goal kicking". That brutal but not those words.

Then somebody on Reddit posted the Missy Higgins sledge. And the AFL site borrowed it. Changed the headline.

There was never any doubt in my mind that StKilda would complain and it would be moderated.

The halfwits who write for the AFL are spectacularly bad at what they do for a living. And that is probably why they experience glee at the failings of the players.

Jack Higgins is not only a better footballer than any of them - he's a better journalist.

Was it Steve Hocking or Ghoul McLachlan who said "The AFL doesn't employ journalists"? Both, among millions.

Say nothing, kick 3.1 next week and it is long forgotten.

Saints have lost it with not letting King practice with Lloyd either.

I can understand gutter rags like the HUN running stupid headlines like this. But the AFL run the game, they simply shouldn't be belittling the players.

The AFL media department are a sesspit of *smile* journos. I rate Sarah Black and Twomey. The rest I wouldn’t *smile* on if they were on fire. They are all wannabe Damo Parrots and FMD that is the last person u should be trying to emulate in life.

Reckon the complaint will have the desired result and someone will get their arse quietly kicked. afl.com is footy's straight man.

What's king issue anyway?
Fken learn to kick straight its a indoor stadium FFS.
I would *smile* him off now while you could stooge someone.
He has Weiderman part 2 written all him.
His brother is 1000 times better?

Why is Higgins kicking an issue today?
The question needs to be asked to our recruiting team.
Why was he taken with pick 17?
No leg speed, small and struggled to kick 40 metres?
He was missing goals (set shot) for us from basically directly in front.
Stkilda should've watched him play before acting like hero's and thinking they were getting a gun.
Higgins would be a great footballer in the southern football league.
