Bye Bye Jack Higgins!

I said this earlier - Richmond will struggle to attract anyone from another club as that player will feel like they are late to the party, or in more likelihood have missed the party altogether.
Reckon if we offered e.g. Brad Crouch the same terms as St.Kilda did that it would be a no-brainer on Crouch's part. Not too confident backing horses with form of 0005 to beat those with 1311. Our offer to Lynch wasn't the most lucrative, but he chose wisely.

We aren't a premiership charity, we're about win-win.

I tend to agree with Lee.

But then again after ( like most in the media, wished or hoped ) 2017 was so unbelievable I didn’t think we would do what we have.

PF 2018
Won 2019
Won 2020

Does this group have another one in them within the next 2-3 before these ‘generational players’ retire?

Guess it will come from the next tier of youngsters .
Each year we have seen 1-2 come into the side and blossom since 17.

This is how we maybe able to give us a chance for one more but other teams will improve.

History has shown that once you win one , most of the list remains together, hunger, luck , leadership etc you can win multiple flags.

We just have to look at the last 20 years( no need to go further ) , just recent history.

BL 4 GF 3 in 4 years.
Pies 1 but could have won more just hit another power in the ...
Cats 3 in 5 years.
Hawks a 3 peat and have won 4.
Tigers Dominant 4 years and have won 3.

So 5 teams have won 14 since 2001. 5 TEAMS

So Lee’s reasoning is there for all to see.

But ours is system based that most have struggled with , with the Pies stopping us in 18 from equaling history with 4 in a row.

So in summary attracting players to come to us ( for less ) for premiership glory ( players managers ) may be advising their players that the Tiger Train has been missed.

To finish this I will put ‘Waiting’s disclaimer’ I’ve been wrong, I’ve doubted, I’m pessimistic type of supporter , one who isn’t one eyed , so I like many supporters will be looking forward to see how this team goes forward in the next period (2-3 years).

‘Don’t get me wrong though ,
I WANT MORE PREMIERSHIPS..

Not Evan best 22 for the saints.
Other than he barracked for them as a kid, it does seem like a strange choice with St Kilda well placed for smalls and mids. Smalls such Butler, Gresham and Billings are all easily better and more damaging than Jack. There may be others (if I bothered to follow them more closely).

Definitely wouldn't be surprised if he struggles to make their 22.

Higgins is a good player but has limitations and suspect the club weren't too fussed with him leaving.

lack of burst and speed, and his kicking is weak. some other kids can fill the void and get the experience at the same time.

Once he decided to leave reckon the club didn't really try to change his mind.

For mine Markov is the bigger loss - his speed and kicking is up to standard and could have cemented a spot in the back half giving us more options with baker and short

He's already had opportunities that other players don't get in a whole career. The saying about looking a gift horse in the mouth comes to mind. This ain't Ottens leaving for Geelong.

I'm sure the club takes a more philosophical view having all the facts at hand, but the fall of every empire begins somewhere and I hope this isn't it.
Otrens was a star with us.
Till he forked himself. He just wanted another 50k instead of the 280k they offered him, he wanted 330k. Geelong got him for 350k and he never looked back.
His 2001 season (watch the dvd) was the best he played, he was unbelievable.
Plus he was a top bloke too. Always went out his way do say hello. Not like ball slappers like Campbell

If we're to stay a powerhouse & remain in the premiership window, next season will tell us plenty with the emergence of young mids in Dow, Collier-Dawkins, Martyn & Ross.
And Castagna he is only 24.
3 time Richmond Premiership player..
He has to be the best small forward in the comp.

I said it on the day we drafted him. Why?
We must've been spooked from drafting anymore talls especially after the worse 4 talls you would ever find in the draft, we found all of them. Elton, Jellybean, Vickery & Griffens.
Griffens made us a powerhouse. When he decided to retire midseason. Hardwick would've been sacked and we would've been on our 40th yr without a flag.

Reported that Higgins missing two grand finals has spurred him on to do better.

What I don’t understand is why he needed to go to another club to do it.
Note to Higgins!
Alot of supporters were not happy with your decision to leave, given the support allocated to you during your time of crisis. But as you have already left, take a moment and listen to Cotchin's and the other players' memories of this year's grand final. You may learn there is a love between our players for each other, the roles they play and desire to succeed by doing the team thing.
Individual alone can't make to the top!

Wasn't sure whether to put this on the Journos board or the How "smile" are Collingwood board.

I note the subtle difference in the chats between Higgo/Dimma compared for Bucks/Trelol, Stephenson et al.

St Kilda recruit Jack Higgins says he was doing “fist pumps” after learning of his trade from Richmond and is determined to help the club he supported as a child snare its second premiership.
Higgins had a contract with the Tigers for 2021 but admitted he had struggled in the Queensland hub this year as he managed just 10 AFL games, including only one match after Round 10.
“Hub life I probably didn’t enjoy as much as a lot of other blokes did,” Higgins said.
“I know a lot of blokes struggled up there. I just found it really hard living with blokes next to you all the time. I’m a homebody.

“It was a really hard decision for me to leave Richmond. They’re such a great club and have got such good players and blokes there and coaches.

“So it was a really hard decision but at the end of the day I thought St Kilda would be the best for my future and I can also see how much the club’s going to go in an upwards spiral.”

Higgins phoned Richmond coach Damien Hardwick at the start of the trade period to request the move after hearing from his manager Paul Connors that the Saints were interested and could provide greater opportunity.
“He (Hardwick) was driving his car so it was really hard to hear him but I just said, ‘I really want to explore a trade, don’t take any offence, you’re a ripper bloke and ripper coach but I just want to explore my options’,” Higgins said.
“He didn’t try to talk me out of it. He said, ‘whatever’s best for you’. He was pretty understanding.”

Guess the young Saints fan

AFL: Jack Higgins has been traded to St Kilda but his love for the club dates back much longer.

Higgins completed work experience with St Kilda in Year 10 and idolised Nick Riewoldt and Nick Dal Santo as a youngster.
He was caught by broadcast cameras celebrating a Riewoldt goal in the front row of the crowd at the Saints’ 2009 preliminary final win over the Western Bulldogs.
“I remember at the time … me and dad watched it about 12 times, that vision,” Higgins said.
“But I went to a lot of Saints games when I was younger and always, not thought I’d play for St Kilda, but always dreamt of me playing for St Kilda. To be here now, I’m over the moon.”
Higgins said he was confident his health issues were now behind him after two rounds of brain surgery over the past 18 months.
“I feel like I’m just a new draftee at the moment,” he said.
“I’ve watched two (Richmond) grand finals, last year for a reason and this year I didn’t get picked.
“But I just really want to play in a grand final and get some consistent games and hopefully be in St Kilda’s second premiership team.”

Oh Come On! Just one more year to honour his contract, how hard can that be? he keeps saying Dimma is a great coach and the players are most welcoming. Sorry but you have lost me. Normally I would take an interest in ex players in opposition teams, but I won't with Higgins. He just sold us!
