Could he have over exerted himself seeing he trained quite heavily over the season break?

In this day, a guy would never be allowed out of the sight of a medico let alone go home if he had suffered a head knock without a complete check.
Peter Jess totally out of line with his comment. He did more damage than good and should be called out on this. Implying that the RFC (and the AFL for that matter) was negligent in their care of Higgins was absolute rubbish.

Unexplained bleeding is within my line of work...The moment we heard the circumstances, it was almost certainly going to be some sort of cerebral aneurysm (weakness in brain blood vessel wall) that he would have had all his life. Impossible to predict or pick up on any scan until it ruptures. Seems like it was not 'deep' and is in a spot that can be therapeutically managed and/or resolved by the body's own mechanisms to cope with this issue.

The fact that he is home means the clinicians are happy that the bleed is resolved and there is no immediate risk. Snags will be jumping out of his skin to play but better to step back and go through all the other tests that will assess for any other areas of weakness.

But wouldn't there be a risk that a deeper blood vessel can rupture next? And is this risk heightened by elite levels of exercise, or the concussion risks of football?

They have ways to 'stress test' and monitor the vasculature under pressure, but generally these are specific isolated tiny malformations. The existing one would have closed off and its highly unlikely to reoccur in another vessel.
They also will know that he has coped with 1 or more preseasons and 20+ AFL games where his system would have been under massive physical stress for extended periods without any problem. This is all assuming that he has not ever suffered from these headaches before.

I really hope when the docs fix Higlet's brain pipes, he doesn't start speaking like Ross Lyon

Just hope during the procedure his heart doesn't go at 1 thousand minutes per second

Maybe that’s what caused it?

Good to hear he is home. Hopefully he fully recovers in time for a full preseason but if not, him being healthy is the main thing!

Would like to hear from Peter Jess also. Mainly to get his expert opinion on how we should treat him from here on and get a management plan in place.

This is a kid who's lived with a footy in his hands his whole life. The errors were uncharacteristic of him.
Also he just didn't have the normal joy in his face either that he did in his debut season. Something seemed up.

Don't like speculating & it may be completely unrelated but it really does make you wonder if there's any correlation to his current health issues.

Higgo has been an absolute breath of fresh air to the entire footy public. There's so much love for him out there. Everyone just wants to see him get right.

Latest reports have indicated that Peter Jess has engaged noted foot specialist Dr Scholl to perform the operation of removing his foot from his mouth.
Dr Scholl when interviewed said that he'd performed the operation previously on Mr Jess, he also indicated that Mr Jess was quite likely to suffer a re-occurance of the condition.

Real tough on Jack but as the club says, he should come right and play again next season. We can rely on the club doing the right thing for him and I am sure we all wish him well and want to see him back in Yellow and Black
 
Brain surgery next week....geez. Just hope everything runs well. I'm not sure how he's gonna get a full pre-season after this as recovery could take months.
 
Good they found this. Must be so tempting for a player like Higlet not to admit to headaches or the like. Sounds like he needs some time but will recuperate. He's young, no need to rush him back, get everything right then into training.
