Buggered if I know whats going on at the Adelaide Crows

It will be like #metoo where more stories come out now.

Same *smile* with male victims in this case. Those who speak up get shutdown by powerful people protecting images and reputations.

I’m guilty of bagging Jenkins for being someone who would basically just play for joe the goose goals but he was clearly carrying around a lot of mental baggage and to have it used against him after being told it would be kept private is just disgusting. It can be very easy to forget all these players are real people with their own traumas and stories when we get swept up with the tribalism of it all.

So different to the Richmond embracement of your imperfections and using it the other way where the player sharing that stuff actually creates connections and empathy.

Check the last few paragraphs of this 2017 article. Bet Brandon was glad he didn’t end up at the crows and josh wishes he was at the tigers.

If the AFL media generally did their job properly, then Gil (and of course SHocking) would have been run out of the game a lot earlier.

If the Commission did their job he would never have got the job in the first place.

Its true, they should be the oversight and accountability mechanism. According to Warner's book, it all sheets back to Mike Fitzpatrick, who effectively said to Demetriou 'do whatever you want, we'll sign off on it'.

On Footy Classified last night they read out details of a new apology issued yesterday by Adelaide F C to victims of the camp.

It was basically more of the same with the Its focus being on the sadness, the club felt and how most of those involved had now left the club. There was also talk of the improvements made since and a hint that maybe the footy director, would also be leaving before the next AGM.

This sort of an apology takes the matter no further and it is not enough by far, primarily because like the earlier apologies, it doesn’t identify exactly what happened to each player and specifically apologise for those actions.
What was said for instance to Eddie and Josh in the consultations before the camp and how confidences were then breached causing lasting damage to each player.
It also didn’t say anything about the clubs earlier consideration of what the ‘consultants’ intended to do, and about who within the club had been a party to the effort to stop players leaking details of the events, and subsequently the lies told by club officials concerning that ‘cover up’.
It also didn’t talk about Eddie’s sacking from the leadership group and the decision to islolate the indigenous players from further involvement in pursuing the Clubs objectives.

Back to square 1 and as I see it and further reason for the AFL to appoint an independent legal counsel supported as required, to investigate all aspects and report back with findings and finally public disclosure and or a prosecution of relevant parties, for bringing the game into disrepute.

(The SA Industrial Health and Safety legislation places a high level of responsibility on employers, but even without it the AFL rules also have wide consequences for clubs which fail to undertake due diligence before embarking on initiatives like this one).

Another topic of discussion on last nights programme is also relevant-ie the appointment of a new AFL boss.
When the matter of the camp was first raised by Eddie, the AFL’s initial response was to say it had advice that there was no basis for an ESS like investigation with charges against the Adelaide club to be bought.
Shortly later Gills receipt of advice was dropped from the narrative with now no reference to why he formed the opinion that the ESS model did not apply here.

Wilson reckons that the AFL’s lawyer Andrew Dillon is still the AFL’s front runner, to take over the top
job.

If Gill did seek legal advice before he moved into cover up mode, it is reasonable to assume it came from Dillon.
Not in Dillon’s interests however now to be associated with such an opinion and unless Gill provides more information about the basis of his decision, we will never know.

So let’s hope the interested journos follow a course of seeking to establish the nature of the advice (and ask for a copy of it).

This story and whether a further cover up then occurred at AFL level, will not be over until then.

Momentai I couldn’t have articulated that better myself!
Well written.
