Inquiry to punting on 2022 Brownlow regarding last game Pies/Blues with Cripps getting the three votes. Insider info with a Ump detained. Bets lodged on Cripps at last minute. Umps that game Gavine ,Meredith & Fleer. Nothing sacred these days when flogs try to beat the odds y illegal means.

Probably been going on longer than we think.

Hopefully it weas one of the umps that crucifies the RFC, it will be handy to see the back of at least one of em.

Disappointing stuff.

Reckon the umps could be in a little bit of Barney in regard to their control over the Brownlow Voting.

Word is the umpire got pissed at a local club and let out some information about cripps' last 3 games to some mates who tried to cash in on it.

Not quite as sinister as it was being made out to be earlier if that's the case. Pretty stupid of the umpire though.

The way it has been broadcast by media it portrays underworld elements yet if it is the above storm in a tea cup. Betting agency's will take ya dough with that that & that thrust down our throat in the media but if you get through one of their loopholes they will call in the regulators post haste.

IIRC there were betting ads right through the Brownlow count. The AFL loves sports betting on all elements of the AFL as it furthers their goal of always being the most spoken about sport.
So this stuff is just a by product of the AFL’s love of gambling. They lie with dogs and got fleas

Yep.

From a site somewhere…

the AFL was made aware of potential suspicious activity by one of our betting agency partners and the AFL Integrity unit immediately gathered further information

As if it has anything to do with ‘integrity’.
All about protecting profits. Zero about integrity.
To pretend and espouse it has some foundation in ethics, honesty and some fanciful idea of moral fibre is folly.

If all the umpires who back door us got sacked, there wouldn't be any umpires left.
Findlay, Stevie, OGorman, Debby, Stephens, Fisher, Chamberlain and the 34 others that rip us a new one.
Who was the jerk off that bend us over against Sydney.

You don't see breaking the law as an issue of integrity?

Lol. To call out Pell as being the corrupt umpire makes no sense to us tiger supporters

Casinos are legal. I think they do too much harm to the community.

It used to be illegal to be ‘tell fortunes and practice witchcraft’ in Victoria until only a couple of decades ago.

You can break a law with integrity depending on context and intent (I‘m not referring witchcraft, but in general). Or you can break a law that is based on something other than integrity. Many will disagree I’m sure but I don’t see laws protecting wealthy agencies and their wealthy affiliates from continuing to fleece the masses ‘fairly’ as being particularly steeped in nobility. A law banning blatant advertising of betting apps that groom the next generation, on the other hand..

In Australia, there was no betting officially allowed at all on sport apart from horse racing before 1980.

The invention of the internet led to an explosion in online gambling in this country & it's now infecting every aspect of every sport.

Odds are always stacked against you though no matter what you bet on..might have the odd win but eventually you will lose.

Ultimately though I just hope this is a catalyst for taking the voting off the umpires. Have never felt comfortable with them casting the votes for the most prestigious award.
