Brisbane Priority Pick

Sure, but it's still a case of the AFL rescuing those clubs from their own poor management.

The only help the AFL's given us was Ian Campbell who almost sent us to the wall for a second time.

I'm not sure the Etihad stadium deal was a case of poor management for those clubs. They had little choice in the end and the AFL was keen for them to be there so it was their duty to bail them out in my opinion. Only Essendon were able to strike a reasonable deal due to their clout as a stronger club.

St.Kilda for example could've moved to the MCG, or stayed at Waverley if they paid for a stadium upgrade. The reasoning with Etihad was that, with a 50K crowd limit, buying a membership would be the only way fans could guarantee a seat. Hawthorn for example held out and moved to the MCG instead. But the Saints went for the shiny new toy and got dudded.

Yes Saint Kilda, who were already in debt, could have somehow found wads of cash to upgrade VFL Park or they could go to Eithad and receive and up-front fee plus a couple of years of extra cash to reduce their debt. One of those Clayton's choices where you don't really have a choice.

Geez, so the Saints got an up front fee plus extra cash for a few years to move to Eddiehead. Plus they've always been on the AFL bail out tit of annual donations, they've sniffed around in Tassie but that was to cold n hard to gain a market toehold so they abandoned that n went to N.Z. instead while also moving their entire operation to Seaford which they've also abandoned. Now the AFL's gotta save them again by buying up Eddiehead early for megabucks to help cover up the fact they keep getting it wrong over n over.

Might hopefully be one tiny ray of sunshine comes out of the AFL buying Eddiehead. Perhaps it's possible that Norf, Aints n Woofers might have to sustain themselves in future years instead of just lining up for AFL handouts because they're incapable of negotiating a halfway decent stadium deal or drawing ongoing viable crowds to their games.

Luv it as we most probably be in the same boat with Dimma in charge for the next two bloody years.

The crux of the angst.
The AFL won't allow their expansion teams to wallow without success for as long as we have.

We have been "wallowing" since September 29 1982

GIVE GIVE SO RICHMOND CAN LIVE!!

The push for Gold Coast to receive priority draft assistance is gathering steam. Interesting to compare Gold Coast with Hardwick's first year after 16 games.

A couple of bad losses and they want to start up the dole.

"We're not seeking any special assistance at all. We haven't and won't. If we have a mantra between the senior people here, it is we take responsibility for the situation we are in right now. It's not about looking back, blaming people and making excuses. Once we take full responsibility, then we can take full responsibility for getting ourselves out if it."

- Brendon Gale

"We need a circuit breaker, genuine player assistance, or we are not being genuine in what we are doing. One of the things we will have to have a serious look at is the priority pick – it is no good just giving us pick 19. Are you serious about real help, or not? I will become a 6000-pound gorilla on this. We are at the pointy end of the argument, we need some proper assistance."

- Tony Cochrane

Be proud, Tiger supporters.

Be ashamed, Gold Coast drug users.

Give them some help to retain players, but otherwise - *smile* 'em.

Any truth to the rumour that GC will get pick 1 as a pp on the proviso that they trade it?

They already get pick 1.

Adelaide should be completely pissed off (given they get Carlton's pick). So should St.Kilda, Melbourne & Sydney with their young teams.

Gold Coast came out of the blocks with three wins and a 1-point loss in the first four games, and now the kids are gassed. Sh!t management does not deserve a PP!

The big thing there is who made the statements. Gale is a smart operator who knows the game. Cochrane is a big mouthed dh who knows nothing about the game.

The problem has never been the players or coaches, it's the club and the lazy atmosphere around it.

Gold Coast has had many failings in some sports in the past.
