Brett Ratten sacked

I have a feeling that Ross Lyon is not going to go so well at St Kilda.

He has shown that he is an exceptional coach when it comes to getting the most out of a list, but therein lies the problem. He seems to do it at the expense of developing younger players.

I am not saying that younger players do not emerge under his coaching. But only the very best seem to.

He squeezed every ounce of talent out of the squads at both St Kilda and Freo, and got both to a grandfinal.

But the fact he is not a premiership coach after three tries speaks volumes to the fact that in doing so the teams he has taken to the grandfinal just have not had enough talent to go on and win.

St Kilda's list I suspect has more talent to it than they showed under Ratten toward the end of the season, and Ross will get that to perform. But while it will get them to a final 8 next year, I don't think it will get them further than week 1 or 2.

I really don't see Ross as a rebuilding type coach.

Unless the Saints recruiting improves dramatically or they snare some top talent from other clubs, it is going to end in tears.

And..... is it correct his tenure is not subject to the maximum 6 month termination clause the AFL 'insist' clubs beholden to them insert in coaching contracts?........
Maybe he got the old nudge nudge, wink wink from the coup plotters!
A lifetime supply of trucks .... "You are passing another Lyon".... towing the latest Jayco van.

There's no Riewoldt or Hayes at Stkilda
This is Hardwick walking into Richmond after Wallace written all over it.

Funny how the AFL have been targeting all these (non trialled) rules to open up scoring.

If there was a guy who needed a rule brought in against him because he wrecked the enjoyment of the spectacle, handbraked scoring and should be banned from coaching a team again it’s Ross “Mr Dullsville” Lyon. Games featuring Lyon-coached sides were often close to unwatchable.

Thanks for nothing Aints. Your fans will hate you for this, as will I.

I remember watching a game against freo in the wet at the MCG, maybe 2015/6. It was more like rugby union than afl. We were the better team, and it was a close and low scoring game-but I never thought we were a chance to win. Worst game of footy I ever saw live.

Only watched a bit of his press conference that was on the sports section in the news. Very brief. But I was falling asleep. Watching paint dry seems more exciting than listening to him talking. I don’t know how he does it in regards to coaching.

And I bet Ross absolutely loved it.

Lyon puts the players to sleep almost comatose during training with his talk but they wake up refreshed on the weekend

He agreed to that clause in the contract though, how can they get angry if it is used?
Find that hard that his manager or he agreed to this BR.

Was it a ‘condition’ ‘clause’ that the Saints or the AFL put in place so that he accepted the 2 year extension, in the event he gets ‘sacked’ he wouldn’t get the two years paid out?

How the Coaches Association allowed it or their lack of ‘voice’ is a true indication that the AFL runs St Kilda and that they would have pushed the ‘agenda’ to possibly get Ross ‘the Boss’ Lyon.

To give the saints ‘Relevance’ they need and the AFL desire.

I agree in sorts with the above Streaker’ but he was a ‘bounce of the ball’ from winning one at St Kilda and ‘poor kicking for goal’ in the first half by memory by Fremantle , he could have won that too!

Developing young kids and lists isn’t he real go as he seems to go to his better players to stick to his game style , closer with them and neglects the younger players until they ‘earn his trust’.

You would think he has learnt a thing or two while in the media.

He stated as much so let’s see.

Do the Saints have the patience as they signed him up for 4 years but reading between his words and response, he appears to have agreed to the same clause that Ratts did.

I don’t think they are ‘that bad’ and wouldn’t be shocked to see them make that jump in the 8 next year.

Let’s revisit this, this time next year Streak my boy.

Think it might be TBV.

Might need this confirmed by others!

But just on that, if true, what were his options though? Don’t agree then don’t coach or agree in good faith and coach?
Exactly Legends.

You might find now that more coaches might have this ‘clause’ written into their contracts going forward.

Especially the ones that are basically ‘funded’ by the AFL.

Just on this Lyon returning for a ‘second stint’ at coaching their club again, how many has there been?

How many successful? None?

Did Norm Smith return after he was sacked? Think so! No Premiership?

David Parkin. No?

Tony Jewell. Returned. Definitely a No

Ross Lyon. ???????????????????

Have I missed anyone.

Lyon will have to overcome history ?

“Review pointed them to Ross Lyon’.
