Why is touring harder than ever? Lorde explains "unprecedented" difficulties of live music in 2022 - triple j
Artists are cancelling shows and feeling the financial and mental health fallout from touring. And Lorde isn't immune, so she's explained what makes live music so hard in 2022.www.abc.net.au
Yeah, it’s a minimum $200 to see an international act eg Chilli peppers, KISS, Elton John, Rod Stewart. Multiply by 3 (wife and daughter) and it’s a bloody expensive night.Hmm, add to this that artists used to make a bit on records, a low proportion of the cost of records even years ago, and compare that to what they make off streaming: f*ck all, and it makes it hard to make a living even as a popular artist.
What a mess.
It isn't like ticket prices are cheap these days compared to years gone by. Even with inflation I reckon the $5 it cost to see The Rolling Stones at Kooyong in 1973 is probably cheaper in real terms than most of today's prices.
Someone's making money, but it ain't the artists, although at the moment maybe no-one is making more than a pittance.
Unless this adds up for the artists then live music won't happen.

Dunno. There is a squillion tours coming up. Chili Peppers, arctic monkeys, Gunners, the Killers, Billy Joel, Elton John, Alestorm (for Taz), and others.Interesting article about the challenges live artists are facing currently post pandemic.

Great. I am heading there tonight.I went to see a punk rock show of local bands at the Bendigo Hotel in Collingwood last weekend. Was a great show but I've been crook with covid since Monday and i'm 99% sure that's where I picked it up. There was basically zero ventilation in that packed band room.

Good to know as I am heading along.Saw the Gunners at Metricon tonight.
Axl was great, Duff really good on his guitar but Slash was amazing, he is undoubtedly the star of the show
An artist at his craft off the highest order
A 3hr 4 minute set list, with a pretty epic ending!!
Considering going to the 'G next Saturday when they're down in Melbourne, whoever's going you're lucky buggers
His best guitars where the yellow and black ones
