Bachar Houli - بشار حولي,

Bruce is good. Bruce is very good. I'd hope and expect to see at least one sign at the nab cup game. "we call him bruce" certainly has a ring to it. And a potential cult figure.

Bachar Houli has signed over 70 of his friends and family to be new Tiger members. What a champion. 8)

Ok people, here is where I propose a nickname for him that works on a few levels.

Someone mentioned something in response to a Wiggles concert, it was about the Hooley Dooley's. I don't have kids but I had heard of them. Anyway it got me to thinking...

Bachar Houli ... 'The Flying doormat' BRUCE Doull. 'Doulli'. Bruce Houli.

Then I got to thinking about Bachar's new number, 14. BRUCE Tempany's old number. Played in the 82 GF.
And in 1980 BRUCE Monteath captained us to a flag, by a then record margin, over a hapless Scumwood.

It stands to reason, that if the RFC are to make another Grand Final, we need a BRUCE in the team.
No one these days calls them BRUCE ;) so we will have to invent a BRUCE and that BRUCE, is Bachar!!
Now, before my laptop unceremoniously crapped itself a few days ago, I had a pic of BRUCE Houli ready to Photoshop onto an old cover of the movie 'They Call Me BRUCE'. It was going to be GOLD because he would have had a headband and everything just like BRUCE Doull used to wear.
There is just too much synergy to ignore. ;D

There will be signs in the crowd that say "We call him BRUCE."

I bet Commetti can't wait to say "Well the Tiger fans they just love him, they call him BRUCE." And just imagine how much it'd make BRUCE MacAveney ROOOAAR. Haha.

Let's call him BRUCE.

Not entirely sold on the Bruce idea, but you've put waaaay too much effort in that for me to ignore!

My name is Tiger Rob and I endorse this idea!

Good first up showing I thought. He's never going to be an in and under hard man, but when we've got our run going he's going to be a key component.

Only fear I have is a player like Houli is going to look great when we've got the run of play, but will go missing when we're under the pump.

Thought his kicking was pretty ordinary. Fair few times in the clear and missed the target. He was pumped up as an elite kick as his major asset to get him a gig on the list so was a bit underwhelmed. Wasn't terrible, wasn't impressed.

Is that because he is a squib?

Cannot expect everyone to be a dog with a bone like King but tend to agree with your fear above. Are we now keen on downhill skiers because we've tired of cross-country battlers?

Yes. A lot of his kicks missed the target, not good enough to be a half back flanker.

thought he was ok - but he'll quickly get the tivendale tag if he has too many games like this and we get beaten. his natural instinct isn't to get the hard ball, so to combat this he needs to start to gut run from contest to contest and use his great kicking to advantage.

My Bomber mates are really pissed off, they think he played better footy for us them he ever did for them. Blaming Knights for not giving him a chance, saying he hated him.

Every team needs a player like Houli.

Ability to find space and get free to hurt teams on the break. Had 10 marks on the night so suggests he did what he had to do. A couple of shonky kicks but also some wonderful kicks to forwards advantages.

I thought he was good. He won't be a guy who goes in and wins his own ball, but that's okay, he doesn't need to do that, what we need from him is to be an option when we gain possession and use it well so our forwards have an advantage to kick goals.

For a first game in the new game plan, he will get better. What I don't want to see is our supporters thinking he is something that he is not and get on his back about it.

Agree, but was disappointed by the expectation others had built up on here that he is an elite kick - he wasn't last game. Always give a player at least 5 games I say before getting on their case I say. In reality their true value is only realised in their second season - no unlike getting to a party half way through the night :hihi

That's what I noticed several times at the game but our players weren't able to see him or chose a riskier option and didn't want to pass to him.

Watch out for The Bash! ;D

Wasn't over impressed with some of his kicking, just a little to much hang time on some of his kicks, needs to flatten out a few of his passes. Hopefully it's just a bit of early settling in to a new team and different game style.

Not every bomber is devasted with his loss by any means. Was reading bomberblitz and came across this thread concerning his performance last Thursday night:

Bachar Houli, Who is/will regret losing him?

Certainly you would expect them to be at least as circumspect as we would be in regards to Tamblings performances at Adelaide. However they do know this player intimately, both in terms of his strengths and weaknesses, and their observations do parallel some of ours. Interesting reading.

After seeing him drill the footy around PRO over the summer I was looking forward to seeing if that transcended into games.
I have to say I was a little disappointed with his debut overall. Not overly hard at it and for a 'link' type, his disposal was just ok.
No tackles for the night ain't a great opening stat either.
Jury is out.

Leysy questioned his hardness when we traded for him.

Thursday night didn't allay those fears.

Indeed, thought his defensive efforts were mixed at best.

We should give him some slack, as an outside player it might take him a while to learn to get to the right spots in a new team.

give him a few games to come good
if he,s still stuffing up drop him
worth a try.
mind you i didn,t think he was much good at essendon.

Sadly I don't think it will matter how good he gets, he'll be our next Tivendale for a large segment of the ferals.

Unfortunately Bacher is McMahon MarkII with less pace but a more robust physique.

People saying that we need outside players are correct, but outside players like McMahon, Peake and Houli have nil impact come come finals and big games. The intensity of these games finds them out.
