Atheism

It's all a massive fluke. A vast set of coincidences. There is no god, there is just our imagination. We are born, we live, we die. Nothing more.

Nothing in life is coincidental, Abs. Our thoughts, actions and words attract every event, situation and circumstance we encounter. The only purity in life is Divine Love. The rest is all an illusion.

Atheism is like going to be with cold hard science. The only upside I guess, is that you get a new update version every now and then. :hearton

Obviously you're a religion fan dukeos. What faith if you don't mind my asking?

I don't entirely disagree with you, Strips. But it's not 'divine love,' it's just 'love.'

Horse evolution: you get a bunch of fossils of similar and vaguely similar creatures from places all over the world and put it together into a sequence. Hey Presto, you have one of the showpieces of evolution!

How closely have you looked into this statement Djevv? Particularly, the fossils I've seen all seem to look pretty horse-like and I was of the understanding that all of the earlier ones were found in America and that only recently (archaeologically speaking) did they begin to show up on other continents.

Tell me, why exactly do you think that generations of the leading minds in this field of science would all be so wrong about it?

They can Freezer but I think DNA breaks down easier than other molecules within the fossils so not all fossils contain DNA. I'm not sure what percentage of fossils contain DNA though.

Can DNA be garnered from fossils...?

Not your typical fossils, no. The DNA is fossilised along with everything else :D. There has been some partial DNA fragments isolated from resin fossils....ala Jurassic Park, but nowhere near the amount of DNA that would take to pull off a Jurassic Park ;D,

I appreciate your sentiment 6pk, but this sort of blind assertion is as useful as Jay saying he is 100% sure there is a god in the absence of any support. It adds nothing to the argument.

Have they found fossils frozen in glaciers, the Arctic or Antarctica? Couldn't DNA be in those?

Yes, equine evolution, as assessed through the fossil record is one of the best characterised lineages. I would be interested to hear Djevv's impression and specific flaws in the interpretations.

From my understanding these aren't technically 'fossils'. They have certainly found extinct species frozen, most notably woolly mammoths. Yes, they can and have isolated DNA from these species and found that they are more closely related to Asian elephants than African elephants.

You also have to remember that the earth hasn't always been frozen at the poles, notably in the late Cretaceous period. Thus, species around at that time, and prior, had no opportunity to be preserved in such a way.

Cheers Pants. I think I'm more interested in reading about science based stuff than that with a religious slant.

I'm off to the library, so to speak.

Well that's me out then. Might go start a gardening thread. Has that been done before?

actually the assertion isn't so blind; no-one has ever proven otherwise.

Actually Jesus did. He rose from the dead, remember.

Not everyone believes this and there isn't any proof.

Unsubstantiated assertions like this are what I was referring to.

As it says in my sig: ..."conviction as the criterion of truth".
