Having extra picks near the pointy end of the draft would be great, but not if it comes at the expense of the development that is taking place.
I don't agree with the idea floated be posters on other threads re experimenting with players in order to underperform.
This is after all about developing belief at the team and individual levels in addition to raising the standard of player at the club, and undermining that for the sake of an extra pick, or slightly higher one, is not worth it in the long term.
Play the players in the roles they are best suited to in the long term and get games into them, especially while they are learning to execute the game plan. If they happen to beat their opponents on the day then so be it. It simply means that they are doing the right things and that the processes are working.
For so long we have been bitterly disappointed by the lack of ticker shown by tiger sides over the past 20 years, yet in 6 months we have seen this in the current crop. Certainly a long way to go, but this is a significant stride towards our ultimate goals. Winning with the young kids as the future core, under a new system is vastly different from the string of 'meaningless' wins often mentioned relating to 2 years ago. We are no longer requiring a group of very senior players to impact on the game with patches of individual brilliance in order to win - it is now much more about a consistant team performance. Experiencing the highs and lows together now while making every effort to win will help form a tightly-bonded team in a few years that can go places.
Having an extra pick in the late twenties may well help to win a few games down the track, but will not necessarily build meaningful team moral.
