After tonight!!

Only players worth a mention tonight were Lids and Polo...a few others were average at best including Nahas, Mcguane, Cousins and Morton...hawks were average, we were worse...

Says it all Gus.
Desperately needed first pick in this years draft.
One SMART, SKILLED , BIG BODIED, inside midfielder.
Even with Cotchin and the terrier Foley to come back into our mid we still need another top quality mid.
We got smashed in the clearances last night and having hard working scrubbers in there just doesn't give us any chance.
Get some QUALITY inside clearance work happening and then skilled running users like Lids, Bling, Collins and Cuz would get some room and time to set up our forwards.

I noticed a couple of times that when we took possesion and could run straight on forward with no one infront the players first instinct was to look sidewards for a give off not stick the ball under the arm and run at the goals. The Wallace game plan has truely wrecked some players football nouse. The quicker this season ends the better.

The handball culture seems to be a big problem. Watched the Crows and marvelled at how they use mainly use handballs as an attacking strategy, not defensive. There is a huge gap in the way we handball and what I saw from the Crows.

Agreed. This is why I think there could be a fair bit of improvement in the players performance under a new coach.

yep we were pretty woeful again.

i thought our players had a real go tonight but our skill errors killed us as usual.

at least half our team are shocking kicks.

if hinkley does become coach at least he comes from a club that historically has always been highly skilled,so he will know the value of only playing players who can kick properly.
i think he`ll be horrified at what he sees when/if he gets to the club.
Lets keep this in perspective. We are not as bad as some doomsayers would have us believe.
Consider the following:
Ins from last night - Cotchin, Foley, Collins, Vickery, Post
Will be better with another pre-season: Vickery and Post as above, Rance, Browne, Putt, Graham (5 much needed talls there), Nahas, Jack, Morton, Edwards, White and potential surprise packets in Gilligan and Gourdis
Maturing and reaching peak age over next 2-3 years: Delidio, Tambling, Jackson, McGuane,
Thursfield, Moore

There is a future and I will stick my neck out and say it is not as far away as many think. What we are seeing now is tired young and under-developed bodies waiting for the season to end.

Question marks - Richo, Brown, Simmo - maybe all 1 more year, as I think there is a cap on how many draft selections we can make (8 ??), McMahon, Raines (although still has something to offer if he improves disposal skills), Pettifer, Thomson, Hislop (the last 2 I wouldnt mind seeing another year from them before judging)
Delistings or trade - In addition to the question marks above, JON, Schulz, Hughes, plus retirements Johnson, Bowden.
Question marks and delistings / trade number 12, so I dont think we can do them all unless a couple are trades (eg Schulz to Adelaide and McMahon to ?? Saints).
Anyway bring it on - dont mind either of Hinkley or Hardwick, but I would prefer that Rawlings replaces Campbell in the assistant role.
Views invited. Cheers

Skills are definately average, but the endeavour was certainly better than the pathetic performance against the Pies last week. A comment was made by one of the commentators during the games that the Tigers are about to experience the most intensive pre-season training this coming summer no matter who the coach is to improve fitness and skills.

We can only hope.

Is Simmonds for real? Those leaps make me laugh. Is he trying to catch something from the sky?

This bloke should be announcing farewell in the next 10 days.

is lamentable isnt he....says alot for Patto, vickers, Browne and Putt that he had the senior gig last night

Wasn't too fussed over tonight. What really was highlighted was that we need some class in the midfield. We win the ball often enough but the likes of Jacko, Tuck, and Whitey just turn it over too much.

Sorry, "highlighted was that we need some class in the midfield"? That is a joke right? The game highlighted that we couldn't get within 8 goals of a injury ravaged team that is limping toward September. At full strength Hawthorn are 10 goals better than us - but the team they put on the park last night was terrible. And we didn't give a whimper! We need a list transfusion!

As supporters we need to angry about comments like this. Too many of our supporters accept rubbish performances and polish them with comments like the one above.

Kengroovy, you are far too accepting of a performance without merit or conviction. This has to stop!

With the exception of Cotch I am not convinced any of these players would have made the slightest difference to a terrible and unacceptable performance!

Sorry Spanish Prisoner. I am an optimist by nature. We can only make a certain number of changes, so the underlying thread behind my points are that we may as well accept some who havent been up to it yet, pray they get better, and pray that the new coach will have an impact. Remember also that some players develop quickly from below average to become very good - Tambling and last year, Moore are two cases in point. Edwards is getting there also, and with another pre-season, there will be others. I have been through the nagry bit, and now we need cool heads and be constructive. What else can we do ?

Here are few suggestions:
i) stop accepting terrible performances
ii) stop thinking when poor players play a few good games that they are any good (ie Tambling)
iii) write letters to the board DEMANDING more
iv) only buy memberships if the club deserves the money

But above all else, be realistic....

I am realistic - have seen it all for 50 years of my 55. You obviously think that we are totally *smile*, but I dont share that view. This year we have been that for sure, but another pre-season, some retirements and delistings, we will recover quicker than most think. Just like the global financial crisis.
Demanding more will achieve nothing unless you think we are better off with a new board and what are they going to do - coach is locked in. Our finances seem sound, they have removed Wallet and gone through an exhaustive process for a new coach, so the Board seems to be on the right track. Dont agree with not buying memberships - club needs our support through thick and thin.
Anyhow, love your passion but maybe less criticism without an alternative. Apart from your suggestions above, what would you specifically propose we do if you were in the chair.

Nahas , Deledio , Tuck , Rewoldt were all good for you last night those ones stand out for me ! anyway

And for me GH, Buddy still the new Richo...excitment machine and no love from the scumps. Do you think he has anything to worry about on the hip and shoulder to Cuz? For what its worth, I thought it was high but in the play. Don't think he lined him up? The second goal though from the resulting stoush killed us. Umpires... if they had awarded the free to Cousins, there would have been no argybargy, no 2 goals to haw and the game goes on...

Went to the Doggies and Cats on Friday and our game last night.

I won't bother going on about the bleedin' obvious - other than to say that both the D's and C's play to a definite (and identifiable) system and have the skills to carry those systems out. But it starts with skills. The decision making is limited to the options available under the system.

Whoever our coach is - we must work hard to improve our skills and be given a system to adhere to. The improvement in decision making will follow.

We probably have been working hard but the damage regards kicking skills especially is done before players get to the Club.
Kicking skills can be improved, i.e.Stewie Lowe ,but the right coach(es) need to be at the Club.
On the radio (774 ) last night one of the commentators said of Hawthorn's 19 scoring shots at half time 15 of them came from Richmond turnovers.
