Adds on PRE

It must be targeting you geographically as poppa says NYT. I haven't heard a sound at all on PRE since the smiley ad got removed from the loop.

Not sure what the solution is in that case, but we'd hate to lose you. Maybe you could just turn the sound down when you visit PRE? Inconvenient I know, but better than having to abandon use altogether because of a couple of annoying ads.

....it has just been the last three months. What makes it worse is that there are 2 ads on every page, so in some cases I get 2 "noise adverts" over one another.

The interesting thing is the sound never matches the visual advertising.

Here is one of the offenders.

Very weird. Thanks for the link NY but it doesn't show our tracking code. Could you please copy the links as below before the actual site being advertised opens. The more you can give us the better.

Examples of our tracking codes from current ads

or

The ad you've linked to is an US ad and not one I'm familiar with. If you get non-matching sounds from both ads showing, and nobody else is having the same experience, I'd suggest the problem is from your end somehow.

Probably not relevant but have you tried clearing cookies, temp files etc and super refreshing.

Ad removale

Hey Rosy,

Many of us have dontated to the site over its time.

So I am wondering if it is possible to think of another way to generate mula to help with the running costs is by offering an 'ad free' membership?

I know the ads aren't highly intrusive but just enough to annoy some like me :p

Some have put a few bucks extra as a donation towards the site when donating for some fundraising cause we've had but not many have really donated towards the site. That might sound ungrateful to those who have, and I can assure you that's not the case. Fact is we've raised a lot of money for player sponsorship, getting an extra rookie, supporting those who are going through some kind of hardship etc but that money goes 100% to the actual cause. I haven't been comfortable with the idea of donations so when people have offered I've declined.

I would much prefer not to have the ads but they do pay for the hosting which has come out of my own pocket for many years now.

I'm not sure how we could have an ad-free membership really. I wouldn't know how to remove the ads for individual users. Suggestions and discussion are welcome though.

Re: Ad removale

On the ads, that sexy lady in the lingerie makes my blood boil, but considering we have minors on this site I personally think that's it's unsuitable but don't be in a hurry to get rid of her. I have never clicked on the banner to see more.

I'm not sure how much you are paying for hosting which would also be based on your monthly bandwidth I guess. But I think whoever you are with now isn't that good. I had problems with even reading the forum earlier.

I suggest you look at the pricing with http://www.ventraip.com.au/ for comparisions.

As for removale of the ads, that is normally handled within the forum software versus the users access level.

Re: Ad removale

I'm not sure if you remember when we used to be with our previous hosts Oz? This site has a massive database and traffic and they couldn't cope with it. The site was down for days at a time, several times a week. I was forever ringing overseas to try and sort out. Our hosts have had a few problems recently but are rectifying them. Price isn't really the issue with quality of hosting because our hosting now is far cheaper than Netfirms and it's far more reliable. I checked your link and I simply can't afford to, and don't wish to, be pay around a thousand bucks to have our site hosted.

I think you must've looked at the wrong hosting package versus your usage of bandwidth. Being only a forum it doesn't require thousands of dollars to run.

But you pay the bills so good luck with your current provider :)

Which hosting package do you think we'd need? It's not only the bandwidth but the database as well and we usually require the top business plan.

Re: Ad removale

No worries Oz. I wouldn't ask if I wasn't interested in your reply or thought it inappropriate to discuss.

What gives with the advertising on this forum?

Some pretty raunchy looking gambling ads creeping on the site. What gives?

:devilsmiley

Re: What gives with the advertising on this forum?

Yeah I must say I have nearly gotten into trouble with the Mrs as she looks over my shoulder to find a woman in undies telling me to come play... Not the best for a family site

What about the one that asks you to create your own woman (and makes it clear to click on strategic parts of her body).... If only we could create winning footballers that easily ;D

We don't select the ads that are in the loop. I've requested them to be family friendly though and have had several removed in the past. I've repeatedly asked for links to ads people find offensive. I can't report them if nobody obliges.

I haven't seen that one and would appreciate a link to it please.

is the one I was referring to that I haven't seen.

Yeah I got sick of the complaints about ads so decided to remove them and pay the costs myself again. Remote's generosity with the Punter's Club helps towards running costs. I get a donation for the site from one of our PREnders to have the Lifesaver ad there.
